Friday, July 26, 2019

Now it gets interesting. The field is trimmed down to just 24 greyhounds for the third round of the 2019 bestbet Sprint Classic and only a 1/3 of the competitors will move on to the finals on Saturday evening August 3rd at bestbet Jacksonville. Only the best of the best is here to compete, and with the longshots taking the top spots in the races in round number 3, there are still several greyhounds with a chance to sneak into the finals. Points will be at a premium tonight, so let’s see who is up to the task.

Semi-Finals of 2019 bestbet Sprint Classic

Race 7 – Tough to ignore LK’s Livin Lucky! With back to back front running wins, she is going to be tough to beat in this effort. She might be a long way from the rail in the 8 box, but with no early speeders around her in this effort, she should be unabated to the lead and the win. Pressing the pace throughout should be her next-door neighbor, Mo’s Tom. Tom has not missed the trifecta in rounds, can hang from the outside posts, and is a good stalking and closing threat. If he gets close early on, he might be able to get by the leader before the wire. Braska Hazel is the best of this bunch, but she drew the wrong box. She likes it outside and is stuck in the 1 box. She has gears to burn late and can run down anyone in this race for fun if she can get room early on. She too has won 2 of 3 rounds, don’t count her out! Arkans Shilling is the consistent chaser that will find a way into the money. Winning might be hard, but with 6 races in the row in the top 4 positions, you know what you are going to get in this effort. More of the same. (8-7-1-5)

Race 9 – Back on track for another LK’s greyhound in this race. LK’s Good Golly had won 6 races in a row and was the only undefeated greyhound heading into round 3 of the stakes. Golly didn’t break her best but rushed up well in the race before finding trouble and falling to finish last. Here I expect her to be back on top at the start and making the field earn it if they want to beat early. Their best chance, back to back winner St Pete Dreamin. This greyhound has a solid break too and can dominate as well when he gets his nose in front early on. If he hits the lid, he could have the 3 peat in sight. Blaska Favolite is a consistent chaser that should be under on your tickets somewhere. She has not missed the money in 6 straight races, including all three rounds of the stakes. She is posted well and can close some too. If she is close early on, she might be upset minded in this effort. Stakes veteran JS Range Rover has seen better days but has still managed to find the money in his last two races in a row in the rounds. When he is on breaking, he is better than almost anyone at the racetrack, and the 1 box here could aide him in that effort. If he wants a chance at the finals, he has to win, and a huge break and stealing a dominate lead early could help him with that effort. (6-5-3-1)

Race 11 – Good trifecta play here if it runs like it should. Dutch Calvin might not have won last time out, but you can’t ignore that 30.02 win in round number 2. He is as fast as he wants to be and has the best raw speed of anyone, and I mean anyone, in this stake. If he gets clear, and wants to run, he will be unstoppable once again in this effort. He will have to work late to get the job done though. I don’t think he can make the front here as the talented breaking duo will be the ones to catch and beat. LK’s Countess has 2 wins in 3 rounds of the stakes and is always a force on the lead. She is not short and can run off and hide on occasion. She should see the front here, and if they want to beat her, they are going to have to be on their A game to get it done. Mo’s Tweety is no slouch either. This greyhound has not missed the quiniela in 6 races in a row, including all of her starts in the stake rounds. She is a pressing force up front, but she can be short late and has been caught from behind in 2 of those 6 efforts. Factoring all the way, she will play in the outcome of this race. Miami Dolphin gets a look after a rough trip and fall in the quarterfinals. She likes the post and has won in the rounds from the 8 box. She needs a solid break and a clean trip around the oval and she too could make some noise at the finish line with her closing talents. (4-6-7-8)
