Grand Classic semifinals set for Sunday

The elite eight Greyhounds that will compete in the Memorial Day running of Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $85,000 Grand Classic will be determined Sunday afternoon, May 18, as the final qualifying round is contested. Race 10 will feature qualifying round victors #1 Spanish Hammer, #3 JD Tommyboy, #4 Joker Dodgem, #6 Alivefortomorrow and #7 Van’s Escalade. Race 12 features the current point leader #8 Starz Jenko. His compeition includes previous qualifying-round winners #4 Yahoo Homer and #5 Flying Jojo. More....


Craigie Mr Venus, Flyin Home Depot remain undefeated

Round two of the Gold Trophy Juvenile was held Wednesday night May 14 at Derby Lane where Craigie Mr Venus and Flyin Home Depot continued posted repeat wins and moved to round three for the Lester Raines and McAllister kennels. Craigie Mr Venus went box-to-wire as the betting favorite in race six and Flyin Home Depot scored his victory closing from third place to pull away by four lengths at the wire. LA’s Anthony (Dustin The Way-La’s Felisha) is hotter than any other Greyhound running right now on the Jacksonville Racing Circuit. Normally that’s a big statement, but in this case it’s a gigantic one. This Greyhound is not even two yet. Starz Jenko upset in Grand Classic

After scoring two impressive qualifying victories, it appeared that 2008 Mardi Gras World Classic champ Starz Jenko would enter Sunday afternoon’s, May 18, semifinals for Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $85,000 Grand Classic as the only undefeated entry, and most likely, the one to beat in the May 26, Memorial Day, finale. TK Quick Strike lowers record in Mountaineer Classic

TK Quick Strike lowered his 3/8 track record at Wheeling Island in the first round of the $10,000 Mountaineer Classic Monday afternoon, May 12. Earlier this year Quick Strike set the new mark of 37.32 over the 678-yard course. Monday he won race 11 in 37.27 winning by 11-1/2 lengths over Creedence. Longshot WW’s Valera ran third. TK Quick Strike (Flying Penske-Joanne’s Peach) is owned and raced by the Charter Kennel who purchased the black male from Marty Tanner at the NGA Fall Auction in 2006 for $29,000. More...

Favorites upset in first round Gold Trophy

Only one favorite scored the win in the first round of the 69th annual Gold Trophy Juvenile at Derby Lane. Kiowa Ice Man kicked off the upsets when he took charge in the back stretch to win by five lengths over favorite Little E Nation who encountered early trouble and finished sixth. Ww Wafffle Crisp finished second followed by Designer Style, JHR Ashley, Starz Magnificat, Little E Nation, Mo Dive and Ninos BP Flyer. More...


TMC’s Royalty crowned Hollywoodian champ

Saturday night May 10, James E. O’Donnell’s TMC’s Royalty (Dodgem by Design-TMC’s Contessa) scored an upset win in the $30,000 Hollywoodian. Owned by Eddie Mc Donald the 72 pound male came charging down the homestretch to snatch the win away from Bigfoot’s Bust-a finalist in last month’s World Classic. More...


Starz Jenko goes for three straight today

One of the country’s hottest racing sensations, Starz Jenko (Kiowa Sweet Trey-Kiowa Like Jill) will go for his third consecutive qualifying victory this afternoon (May 12) as Palm Beach Kennel Club presents round three of the $85,000 Palm Beach Grand Classic. Night of Stars XXI scheduled for November 1

The AGTOA has scheduled the 2008 Night of Stars Greyhound charity broadcast for Saturday Nov. 1. According to Chairman Tim Leuschner funds were not available to produce the semi-annual show twice this year. The NOS broadcast has been aired each May and November for several years. “We picked November as we feel that the show would generate more income for Greyhound adoption then,” said Leuschner. “We hope to come back bigger and better than ever!” More...

Gold Trophy Juvenile starts Saturday Night

This season’s top juveniles will compete in round one of the 69th annual Gold Trophy Juvenile stakes at Derby Lane. The stakes is the track’s third longest running stakes. The Florida Legislature ended its annual two-month session May 2 without passing two slot machine bills that were sought by the pari-mutuel industry.

Flying Mancini wins William Grace Memorial Countdown

Running true to form, Flying Mancini won her fifth straight race Saturday (May 3) to capture the $20,000 William Grace Memorial Countdown at The Woodlands. IIt appears that changes will happen at Mile High Greyhound Park this summer. IIn a worst-case scenario, those changes could be drastic. Speculation has been raised that the track in Commerce City might shut its doors permanently, perhaps as soon as July 1. Camptown owner ends negotiations with state lottery

Camptown Greyhound Park owner Phil Ruffin has ended negotiations with the Kansas Lottery that would reopen the racetrack with slot machines, the Lottery Commission says. Lottery Commission spokeswoman Sally Lunsford said Ruffin left the bargaining table on Friday. "They don't feel it's a good investment," Lunsford said. More...
