Craigie Whistler

Lester Raines’ Kiowa Lazy Lazy (Dodgem By Design-Lazy K Caribbean) and McAllister’s Flying Coal City (Kiowa Sweet Trey-Flying Crestline) sizzled Saturday night, July 17, clocking speedy times in their top grade wins at Derby Lane. Kiowa Lazy Lazy’s 30.28 clocked last November closed out 2009 as the fastest. Lazy Lazy has been a solid top grade contender all year and was featured in the Matinee Idol and T. L. Weaver Memorial stakes. He also kicked off the new meet in the NOS XXIII from Derby Lane on July 2.

Lazy Lazy’s 30.39 recorded on July 17 over 550-yards nosed out the 30.40 also clocked by the male since the start of the new meet. Lazy Lazy’s upset in race 12 on July 17 over Aerial Battle was Lazy’s 17th win this year from 41 starts. Kiowa Lazy Lazy is owned by Hall of Famer Kay Smith.

Earlier in the evening Flying Coal City dazzled his fans once again to record his 26th win of the year from 40 starts. Coal City broke third and powered his way to the front leaving his rivals in an 11-length wake and tying his season’s best 37.08 over the 660-yard oval. Coal City, owned by Vince Berland, clocked the first 37.08 on July 10 in a 10-length romp. Flying Coal City’s stats are staggering. Since March 3 the red male has collected 30 quiniela finishes of which 23 of them are wins. He has only finished out of the money once and that was when he was knocked down. Since March, Coal City has had two win streaks one of eight in a row and a seven in a row streak. He has been the bet favorite in his past 29 consecutive starts.

Other news: The Victor Hall trained Patriot Kennel continues to hold off Royal Racing Team in the kennel standings. Patriot starts the new week with 32 wins followed by the Jimmy Morgan trained Royal Racing at 26. Belinda Parker’s Capabal Kennel, and the Ken Lesperance-trained Lester Raines Kennel are at 23 wins each followed by Charter (Danielle Asbury), D’Arcy (Mick D’Arcy) and Cal Holland (Justin Holland) all with 22 wins.
