Thursday, September 7, 2017

Derby Lane has cancelled live greyhound racing until Wednesday (Sept. 13) with Hurricane Irma expected to reach Florida this weekend. The track suspended racing after the matinee performance on Wednesday (Sept. 6). The second round of the $50,000 Husker Magic Fall Sprint, set for Wednesday night (Sept. 6), is expected to resume on Wednesday (Sept. 13). Track spokeswoman Alexis Winning said poker and simulcast wagering will be available through Saturday. She said the facility will be closed Sunday, and patrons should then call Derby Lane to see what the track’s schedule will be beginning Monday. “We’re shutting down for the safety of the greyhounds,’’ Winning said. “Some kennels plan to evacuate, and for the safety of the greyhounds, the customers and the employees, Derby Lane is taking the necessary precautions.’’ The Derby Lane telephone number is (727) 812-3339.
