A dominating performance by Superior Watson topped a strong night for the Superior Kennel as 48 greyhounds opened competition in the $30,000 Future Stars Stakes at the Iowa Greyhound Park on Thursday, Sept.13.

Superior Watson, a 74-pounder, born Oct. 7, 2016 out of Superior Panama – Classy Senza, broke sixth from the eight box. But Watson, 22-8-0-7, quickly took charge and ran away to a 10-length win in a time of 30.92 for the 5-16 mile course. The margin of victory and the time were easily the best of the six first-round races.

Three other Superior Kennel greyhounds came home winners in the first round.

Superior Wildcat, a littermate of Watson’s, opened with a length’s win out of the six box. Wildcat is 24-11-5-2.

Keeping it in the litter, Superior Wilson, 25-6-3-6, pulled away slightly in the homestretch to win by three and a half lengths.

The fourth Superior Kennel winner is also from the same litter. Superior Wendy, 27-9-2-3, gave a steady effort to win by a length from the eight box.

Also winning in the first round was XK Crushin of the Xtrem Hess Racing Kennel. XK, 19-4-5-4, a 64-pounder, born Jan. 3, 2017 out of Days Octane – Gable Annabeth, rallied from fourth in the homestretch to win by a nose.

Rounding out the first round winners is KB’s Dagger (T And T), who pulled away a bit in the homestretch to win by two lengths. KB’s Dagger is a 76-pounder born Dec. 26, 2016 out of Atascocila Gray – Boc’s Haiti Baby and stands 18-4-5-2.

All the pups return for the second round, set for Wednesday, Sept. 19.
