Thursday, November 1, 2018

Finally, in the third round of the 2018 bestbet Derby, the favorites decided to show up. Not one, or two, or three, but four top selections got it done at the wire and went a long way to securing their spot into the finals on Saturday evening.

Leading the way is the still undefeated Token Phantom. Breaking close in the 9th race on the card. Once again, he wore down the leader on the backside, took over by the far turn, and raced off home for an impressive victory by 4.5 lengths at the wire in 37.54 seconds. Leadin The Crowd gained ground throughout and came from 4th early to be the next closest competitor at the finish line. Amanda Polk cam from even further back for third as the pacesetter to the stretch, Saber Combat, was outfinished and had to settle for the final spot in the superfecta at the line.

Not to be outdone by his brother, Quick Style put on the race of round 3 in the 7th on the card. Breaking almost on top, he seized control of this race early on and never even thought of looking back. He was pressed to the first call, where he had a half of a length on the field, but from that point on it was all about STYLE points. Drawing away down the backside, he stretched his margin to 4 lengths and coming home he just heaped on the drive to the wire. Winning by a whopping 8.5 lengths, he stopped the clock in a blistering 37.25 seconds. Ab Smoke Show closed from the start to win the best of the rest crown, followed by the early chasing PJ Whatifistay in 3rd, and the even running Quick Shot in 4th.

Arkans Tt Cash got back to back wins in the 15th race with an equally stellar effort. Coming out close, he jumped to the early lead and was already in command at the first call by 3 lengths. Breezing up front he coasted all the way to the far turn and maintained his margin throughout. Down the stretch, he was not playing around and kicked it into serious overdrive. Pulling away from the rest with every stride, he too crossed the line 8.5 lengths free of the competition and stopped the clock and a speedy time of 37.41 seconds. Dawn Wells outlasted the early chaser Taking Car Ofme for place as Queen Of Queens completed the superfecta at the finish line.

Johnny Camaro was the other winner on the card, and the one that looked as though he was not going to get the job done before the wire. Hitting the lid in the 11th race as Rs Axel Rod. Stealing away 2 lengths over Johnny early, he had work to do if he wanted the big time W! Chasing the pace, he was not alone and was able to gain any ground by the far turn, but in the stretch, it would be a different story. Finding the NOS button as they drove for the line, he powered home to steal away a victory from the clutches of defeat by just a nose at the wire. His 37.98 clocking was the slowest on the card, but it all counts the same, and so does the 19 points. Axel Rod had to settle for place after really a front running winning trip, and Itsafoolsgold was in the mix all the way to the finish line and was just a neck short of getting home a winner herself. Fourth went to the gradual gaining Mac’s Quinn.

Once again, the field will be trimmed down for the semi-finals as only the top 24 greyhounds will have a chance at the finals. Join us this weekend, on Saturday evening November 3rd, to see who makes the elite 8 and has a chance at the title.
