DUBUQUE, Ia. – Two rounds of the $30,000 Dubuque Classic Stakes at the Iowa Greyhound Park have separated the field of greyhounds.

After the Thursday, Aug. 22, second round the field of 32 was sliced in half to 16.

Leading the field are two greyhounds who have won in each of the first two rounds.

XT’s Thunder (Xtrem Hess Kennel), a 72-pounder born July 16, 2016 out of Djays Octane - Jb’s Thunderbolt, won his second round race by two lengths. In each round, XT’s Thunder had the fastest time of the four races in the round.

Superior Tora (Superior) won her second-round race pulling away by four lengths. Tora is a 60 pounder, born Sept. 9, 2017 out of Gable Sour Cream – Superior Intoit.

The next four greyhounds appear to be in good shape. Joesrifleman (Copper Kettle) and Superior Tack (Superior) have 32 points; Lester Hayes (Stidham & Brindle) sits with 28 points and Revin Devon (Copper Kettle) has 23 points.

The remaining 10 greyhounds are in a logjam. Bgr Gladiator (Boeckenstedt) tops the group with 17 points. Three greyhounds finished with 11 points, luck of the draw knocked out one, leaving the other two still in the hunt.

With a victory in the third-round worth 20 points and a second-place finish worth 12, the lower standing greyhounds would probably need a win to stand a chance make the championship field.

The third round is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 28. After the third round, the field will be cut in half for the championship race on Sunday, Sept. 1.
