With his final stride Revin Devon (Copper Kettle) turned the 2019 $200,000 (estimated) Iowa Breeders Cup into an instant classic on Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Iowa Greyhound Park.

Revin Devon’s midtrack homestretch rally edged Jd Revelation (Stidham & Brindle) by a nose, the first time Revelation had NOT led in the 5/16 mile championship test. The official margin of victory was .01 of s second.

“I did not think,” said trainer Jake Ungs, “he would do it with the way the track was running.”

In fact, nothing seemed in Revin Devon’s favor. He drew the four box and “the other two times he drew the four,” said Ungs, “he finished third and fifth.

“The five (Jd Revelation) Is a good greyhound and he got that lead (three and four lengths on the backstretch).”

With all that, Revin Devoin, a 75-pounder born April 15, 2017 out of U Too Pure Silk – Fire And Heat, started closing as the fiield rounded the far turn and kept on closing until that final stride

The win caps quite a run for Devon. He finished second in the $30,000 Dubuque Coiurse Stakes; won the $30,000 Future Star Stakes and now won the IBC in perfect fashion by taking all our qualifying rounds in addition to the title run.

“He is just really nice,” understated Ungs. “We were going to take him to Gulf (Greyhound Park in Taxas) after here. If he does well there, we think he deserves All-American honors.”

-Revin Devon is 31-17-4-3.

The oh-so-close Jd Revelation is 18-8-4-2.

Third but five lengths back is the second of the four Copper Kettle entries in the final. Bossman Jake is 26-7-5-2.

Just a half-length behind in fourth is BGR K Capt Quick (Boeckenstedt) 37-17-6-5, who went off as the patron’s favorite.

Two lengths back in fifth was Joerlfleman (Copper Kettle) 35-10-11-5.

Superior Tack (Superior), 33-9-7-2, nudged out Jd Anaconda (Stidham & Brindle, 22-6-1-4 for sixth.

That leaves Bsk Snow White (Copper Kettle), 22-4-3-1, to complete the order of finish.

For the patrons Revin Devon paid $6.60, $3.80 and $3.40; Jd Revelation paid $$8.20 and $5.00; Nossman Jake paid $4.80. The 4-5 Quiniela paid $21.60; the 4-5-7 Tri-Box paid $67.80;  the 10 cent Superfecta 4-5-7-2 paid $40.29.
