Husker Magic of Abernathy kennel, the All-America captain and Rural Rube winner for the nation’s best sprinter in 2015, attempts to become the first Derby Lane greyhound to reach 100 career wins Wednesday in Race 10 at 9:47 p.m. in St. Petersburg. She drew the No. 1 box. 

UPDATE ON THE RACE:Husker Magic, the All-America captain and Rural Rube award winner for 2016, finished second Wednesday in her first attempt to reach 100 career victories for Abernathy kennel at Derby Lane in St. Petersburg, Fla. She lost by a length to Nova kennel’s Dali Weather.

Husker to try again
Derby Lane racing secretary Les Robison said Husker Magic of Abernathy kennel is expected to resume her quest for career win No. 100 on Monday’s matinee in St. Petersburg, Fla. Kennel operator Jim Abernathy said his standout greyhound came back in good shape after Wednesday’s second-place finish - her first attempt to reach the 100 milestone.
