Another win. Another climb up the all-time leaderboard for Husker Magic.

The Abernathy kennel standout moved into a tie for 35th place on the National Greyhound Association’s lifetime win list Saturday night (June 11) with an impressive 6-1/2-length victory in a Grade A race at Derby Lane in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Breaking from the No. 6 box in the 550-yard event, Husker Magic rolled to a 5-length lead at the first call and was never challenged in winning for the 103rd time from 165 lifetime starts. Her time was 30.78 seconds. Jr’s Ripper is the sport’s all-time win leader at 143.

Trained by Claudio Lopez for I Mark Kennels owners Jim Abernathy of St. Petersburg, Arthur Kaufman of Sarasota, Fla., and Terry Haber of Grapevine, Ark., Husker Magic has surpassed $109,000 in career earnings. The 50-month-old daughter of Rhythmless and Casino Zada is a three-time stakes winner, including the $8,000 T.L. Weaver Memorial Challenge on June 4. The 69-pound greyhound is the reigning All-America captain, Rural Rube winner as the industry’s top sprinter and national win champion.
