DUBUQUE, Iowa – Three greyhounds share the lead after two rounds of the $30,000 Dubuque Classic Stakes at the Iowa Greyhound Park. The trio each has won in both rounds to secure the maximum of 40 points.
O Ya Curly Sue (Wayne R. Ward Kennel) has been the most impressive of the three. Sue, a 58-pounder born June 26, 2014 out of Defrim Bale-O Ya Norma, won her second-round race by five lengths after winning by 10 lengths in the first round. Sue is 16-8-2-4 on the 2016 IGP season.
Superior Yesy (Superior) has a pair of two length wins in the Stakes. Yesy is a 64 pounder born Sept. 15, 2014 out of Kiowa Mon Manny-Superior Larue. She is 16-8-3-1 on the season.
DNT Finbarclancy (T And T) rallied to win by head in the second round to add to a four-length win in the opening round. Finbarclancy is a 70 pounder born June 29, 2014 out of Djays Octaine-Ah’s Salma. He is 14-6-6-1 on the season.
Sixteen greyhounds advanced to run in the third and final round of the qualifiers which will be held on Friday, August 26.
Xkt Shelley Turing (Xtrem Hess) sits in fourth place with 32 points and Joeslittlepebble (Copper Kettle) is fifth with 28 points. Then there is a dip and a cluster. Ten greyhounds have between 20 and 13 points, leaving the battle for the final three spots in the championship race wide open.
The championship run is set for Friday, September 2.
