The KGA is seeking your help to raise funds for the upcoming legislative session. While the KGA supports Race for Kansas and their work, the KGA is here to protect the interests of the greyhounds, owners and kennel operators. You are welcome to donate to one or the other or even both causes.

We, the board members of the KGA, are writing on behalf of the entire industry to ask for your help in correcting the issues in SB 66 and finally get the racetracks in Kansas open as was intended all along.

As all of you know, Kansas has been in the news for the drastic tax cuts administered under current Governor Sam Brownback. He was able to incorporate these tax cuts, which has left out state with a huge budget deficit, by spending large sums of money to defeat Moderate Republicans who traditionally have been our allies in the fight to get the tracks open.

However, due to his crippling policies that have left the State of Kansas with a large budget deficit, voters have sent a message to him and his followers that they have had enough. In the primary, several prominent senators were defeated by more moderate incumbents, including Senator Terry Bruce who was slated to become the next Senate President. This trend was even bigger in the House primary races. It is generally believed this trend will continue in the General election in November. Our State is in serious financial trouble and the tracks being open is the only ready revenue stream that has been proposed. We are at a point where there really is nowhere else to cut.

That is where you come in, we are asking for donations to help the KGA with lobbying efforts to assist the track owner in getting these greyhound tracks in Wichita and Camptown up and running. The Woodlands will be a horse only track. I know this is not how all of us would like things to be but dual-purpose racetracks have proven to not be a feasible option.

The KGA has set up a PAYPAL account where donations can be sent. It is kansasgreyhounds@gmail.com. We also will accept checks made to KGA Legislative Effort at:

Kansas Greyhound Association 729 Hwy 40 Abilene, KS 67410

We appreciate all support and will take out a full page ad in the Greyhound Review thanking everyone for their generous donation. The industry needs more tracks open and we will face a fight from the current casino operators (even though they knew we were supposed to open before them) and Grey2k. Last legislative session, the casinos flew Christine Dorchack personally to testify against us. We would expect nothing less this year.

Again, thank you for any and all donations to keep these animals doing what they love and those of us who love them the opportunity to continue to be in contact with these crazy, silly dogs.

Jim Gartland is the Executive Director for the NGA and serves as the Secretary Treasurer to the Board.
