Sadie Marquee undefeated in Naples Sprint series

Round three of the $30,000 Naples Sprint Championship saw three enter undefeated, but only one emerging undefeated. Oxbow Trow kennel's Sadie Marquee won the biggest showdown of the day featured in race two and remains undefeated in the series. The high-noon feature that went off at approximately 12 noon at the Bonita Springs facility featured Brindle kennel's star sprinter Martha Maccallum seeking three in a row. She wore the coveted red blanket and was the bet favorite. Her strong opponent Sadie Marquee, also undefeated, broke next to her in post two.

Martha outbroke her opponents, but encountered much early trouble. She used up energy trying to recover from continuous blocking and by the backstretch she was out of the running for a money finish. Frenette kennel's Rams Big Dan T in post eight muscled his way to the front putting forth a winning effort. The male appeared to be gliding home, but could not hold off the closing strides of Sadie Marquee. The 65-pound Marquee overcame early bumping and ducked in on the rail in the backstretch avoiding trouble that allowed her racing room to perform. Sadie Marquee (Atascocita Bowl x T's Chugginalong) crossed two in front of Dan that stopped the clock in the fastest round three time of 30.45 over the 550-yard course.

"Sadie is one of those pups that took a while to develop," said trainer and greyhound owner Edward Trow. "She needed a lot of patience and time to come into her own. Watching her mature has been rewarding in many ways." Trow added that although Martha's streak was halted she is still the biggest stakes threat in the capable hands of Brindle kennel trainer Mike Roderick.

Steve Sarras kennel's WW Flash Boy was the third undefeated round three entry that saw his streak fall in a three in a row attempt. Jacobs Racing's Where's Boogie finished a nose in front of Flash Boy for trainer Jake Reeves that stole the top points to complete the series. Boogie's win also moved him into a two-way tie for second place points. Other round three winners were Flyin Wolf Queen (Everett Racing), Fire Blitzen (DQ Williams) and Brindle kennel's Mike Huckabee.

The upsets shifted the top eight around. Seventeen points was the cutoff for the three semifinal races that will be held Saturday matinee January 7. The top eight are:

Sadie Marquee (Oxbow Trow) 45 points

WW Flash Boy (Steve Sarras) 40 points

Where's Boogie (Jacobs Racing) 40 points

Fire Blitzen (DQ Williams) 33 points

DS Butterscotch (Xtrem) 32 points

Martha Maccallum (Brindle) 31 points

WW Stand Alone (Steve Sarras) 29 points

Flyin Wolf Queen (Everett Racing) 26 points

First post Saturday matinee is 11:45am. The top eight from the Jan. 7 semifinals will compete in the $30,000 Sprint Championship Saturday matinee Jan. 14th.
