West Palm Beach, Fl. – In one of the most exciting finishes in Palm Beach Kennel Club stake race history, Brindle Kennel’s Janice Dean held off her arch rival Fraulein Morgan to win the 86th running of Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $50,000 James W. Paul 3/8ths Mile Derby. Watch the Race Here

And as most racing fans had predicted, it was going to come down to two Greyhounds.

As the starting box opened for the finale, it was a clean, but close, break with Janice and her kennel mate O Ya Maybelline out early, followed very closely by Morgan and Go Bon Kickstart.

As the finalists straightened out for the run down the front stretch, it was Janice Dean, who is named after Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean, in control with Kickstart and Morgan in the battle for the second spot.

Entering the backstretch, it was still the weather machine holding on to the advantage with Fraulein Morgan now in sole possession of second place.

It was a two-Greyhound championship race from here on out.

It was what the fans wanted to see.

At the top of the stretch and the dash for the cash, it appeared that Morgan had slipped through on the inside and was going muzzle-to-muzzle with Janice. As the finish line drew closer, Janice grew more determined to pull ahead by one length and keep that lead as she crossed the finish line.

“It was one heck of a race.”, said an emotional Alvin Rink, trainer for the Brindle Kennel.  Watch a video of Alvin Rink's reaction as Janice Dean wins the Derby

Rink, whose wife Carol passed away late last month and who loved Janice, emotionally stated after reality was settling in, “I knew Carol was right there with Janice. Saying keep going, keep going. You can do it. And she did. I dedicate this win to Carol.”

God Bon Kickstart and Wicked Twista finished third and fourth, respectively.

Janice Dean collected a cool $25,000 for her 37-seconds run of fun in the south Florida sun and returned $6.80 to her many, many supporters. Added to her victory in last month’s $50,000 He’s My Man Classic, in addition to her qualifying earnings, brings her personal prize winnings to more than $50,000!
