 Flying Russian Holds on to Win the 2016 $20,000 Bob Balfe Puppy Stakes

ROUND TWO QUALIFYING ACTION FOR PALM BEACH KENNEL CLUB’S $20,000 BOB BALFE PUPPY STAKES SATURDAY AFTERNOON, APRIL 15!

West Palm Beach, Fl. - Round-two qualifying action for Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $20,000 Bob Balfe Puppy Stakes will be contested Saturday afternoon, April 15.

Round one entries looking to remain undefeated in the second go-around of qualifying include:

In Race 8, #3 TC’s Ryobi (Djays Octane – Consider Me Gone, James Douglas Kennel) will be taking on the likes of first-round runner-up #4 Speedy Charlie (BD’s Grayson – Flying Rosecrest, Arthur Agganis) and strong closer #5 Dutch Secret (BD’s Grayson – Dutch Dimple, Lester Raines).

Race 10 features the impressive #4 Char Vallon (Djays Octane – Hail Storm Bones, James Douglas). Attempting to deny Vallon her second win, and earning their first, will be #1 Pat C La Renig (Lonesome Cry – Skiddy Duchess, Koppe, Staats & Collins) and the early speedster #7 Bigger Pockets (Barcelona Boss – WW’s Dove Call, Janie Carroll).

The fur will literally fly in Race 12 as a duo of round-one winners meet for the very first time. Round one favorite #4 B Allstar Garth (WW All Star Owen – Kentucky Ashley, Lester Raines) goes muzzle-to-muzzle with #8 Char Draper (Djays Octane – Hail Storm Bones, James Douglas). Draper won last Wednesday’s qualifier by more than eleven lengths clocking in at the best time of the entire afternoon, 29.41 seconds.

Another double dose of doggie first-round victors face off in Race 14 as #1 JS Digital Dash (Pat C Clement – JS Toy Boat, Rader Racing) takes on big-time closer #6 Tomco Spike Lee (Trent Lee – Turbo Sara, James Douglas).

Second-round qualifying wraps up in Race 15 as box-to-wire round-one winner #4 Barts Upfront (KC And All – Workhardplayhard, Rader Racing) goes for the twofer. Standing in his way are three round-one runner-ups, #1 TBW High Rise (KC And All – HS Nola, Arthur Agganis), #3 Belagosie (Rico’s Vintage – Winding, B & B Racing) and #8 TC’s Bitterman (Djays Octane – Hail Storm Bones, James Douglas).

Qualifying will also be held in races 2, 4 and 6. Following Saturday afternoon’s second round of qualifying, the field will be trimmed to 32 entries.

They will compete in round three on Wednesday afternoon, April 19, with the top 16 point-earners advancing to the semifinals Sunday afternoon, April 23.

The 51st running of the $20,000 Bob Balfe Puppy Stakes will take place Saturday afternoon, April 29.

The Puppy Stakes is named in honor of former Palm Beach Post Time sports columnist and great friend to Greyhound racing Bob Balfe.
