James Douglas Kennel’s Char Vallon Romps to an Easy Win the 2017 $20,000 Bob Balfe Puppy Stakes!

VALLON ROMPS TO EASY WIN IN PALM BEACH KENNEL CLUB’S $20,000 BOB BALFE PUPPY STAKES CHAMPIONSHIP!

West Palm Beach, Fl. – James Douglas Kennel’s Char Vallon put on a smoke show for racing fans as she scored a stunning victory in the 51st running of Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $20,000 Bob Balfe Puppy Stakes, Saturday afternoon, April 29.

In this edition of the Puppy Stakes, it was literally over a few seconds after the starting box opened.

Sitting next to the slow-breaking-late closer Speedy Charlie, the petite 52-pounder Char Vallon took advantage of the situation and blew the doors off the starting box at the break to gain instant command.

Following Vallon to the first turn were three-time qualifying round winner Record Year and the race favorite B Allstar Garth.

But in all honesty, no one was going to catch the eventual champion

Entering the final turn, some hope sprang eternal as Record Year looked as if she could possibly pose a challenge.

“I was a little concerned as Record Year was getting a little closer on the backstretch.”, said Douglas Kennel assistant Jimmy Douglas. “But as they straightened out in the home stretch, I knew nobody was going to catch her.”

Char Vallon traversed the 545-Yard Royal Palm Course in a speedy 29.32 seconds, a new Bob Balfe Puppy Stakes race time, winning by four lengths and returning a respectable $13.60 for a $2-win ticket.

Char Vallon earned a cool $10,000 for her Bob Balfe championship victory.

Record Year, Char Draper (Vallon’s sister) and Barts Upfront finished second, third and fourth, respectively. The complete order of finish:

1st – 3. Char Vallon (Djays Octane – Hail Storm Bones, James Douglas)

2nd – 4. Record Year (Soprano Drive – Big Drama, Lester Raines)

3rd – 5. Char Draper (Djays Octane – Hail Storm Bones, James Douglas)

4th – 7. Barts Upfront (KC And All – Workhardplayhard, Rader Racing)

5th – 2. Speedy Charlie (BD’s Grayson – Flying Rosecrest, Arthur Agganis)

6th – 1. B Allstar Garth (WW All Star Owen – Kentucky Ashley, Lester Raines)

7th – 6. JS Hot Pocket (SH Avatar – JS Kerry Oki, Rader Racing)

8th - 8. JS Digital Dash (Pat C Clement – JS Toy Boat, Rader Racing)

The Puppy Stakes is named in honor of former Palm Beach Post Time sports columnist and great friend to Greyhound racing, Bob Balfe.
