A box-to-wire four length triumph sent Lattnerville (Copper Kettle) into the championship race of the $30,000 Dubuque Course Classic after the third and final round of qualifying Friday, August 25, at the Iowa Greyhound Park.

Lattnerville, a 76-pounder born Oct. 18, 2014 out of KC And All – Kind Kelsey, is a surprising leader. He entered the Classic as a Grade C runner and posted a fourth in the first round, but went box-to-wire to win in the second round by a length. Now Lattnervlle, 12-4-2-0 for the season, added a second win to top the points chart with 45.

Form held in the third round. Seven of the greyhounds in the top eight in points after the second round stayed there to advance.

Breaking into the title group was Bs Hammer (T And T), 19-3-3-3, who broke sixth and kept coming to rally in the homestretch for a two length win. The 71 pounder, born May 29, 2015 out of Djays Octane – Bs Hip Hop, finished tied for fourth with 33 points. He needed every point; a second place would have left Hammer out of the final.

Second round leader Bgr Dirty Shirly (Boeckenstedt), 16-5-2-2, finished a lackluster fifth in the third round but still totaled 43 points, good for second on the leaderboard.

There is a drop to 35 points to Ds Raisinette (Xtrem Hess), 15-3-2-2, who advanced despite a fifth place run.

Gracie Lynn (Copper Kettle), 15-3-3-1, posted a strong second place finish in the third round to tie Bs Hammer for fourth in points with 33.

Fightin Flo (Copper Kettle), 16-2-5-1, had enough points after two rounds to survive a last place finish in the third round. She advanced with 32 points.

Jd Allure (Stidham), 15-4-3-5, stayed comfortable with a third place finish in the third round and advanced with 30 points.

Pg Dickinson (Xtrem Hess), 18-3-7-3, rounds out the title field, She totaled 29 points after a seventh place finish in the third round but that 29 is four more than any of the non-qualifiers.

Note that Copper Kettle has three entries in Lattnerville; Gracie Lynn and Fightin Flo and Xtrem Hess has two (Ds Raisinette and Pg Dickinson).

The Dubuque Course Classic championship race will be Friday, September 1, the 12th race on the program.

The finalists: Lattnerville (Copper Kettle) 45; Bgr Dirty Shirly (Boeckenstedt) 43; Ds Raisinette (Xtrem Hess) 35; Bs Hammer (T And T) 33; Gracie Lynn (Copper Kettle) 33; Fightin Flo (Copper Kettle) 32; Jd Allure (Stidham) 30; Pg Dickinson (Xtrem Hess) 29
