ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – For CH Nuttin Honey and SE’s Wepon X, it doesn’t matter how you got there that counts. It’s if you’re there that matters.

The two greyhounds rallied to score upset wins in the fourth and final qualifying round Wednesday of the $64,000 Sprint Classic to secure berths in Saturday night’s 550-yard championship race at Derby Lane.

CH Nuttin Honey (Lester Raines kennel) and SE’s Wepon X (Nova) needed big efforts to advance and they delivered at odds of 14-1 and 7-1, respectively, to add 16 points to their accumulative totals. It was the first time in qualifying that any dog had come from off the pace to win, and it happened in both races.

SE’s Wepon X started the upset trend with a two-length victory in the first qualifier. His winning time was 30.58 seconds. CH Nuttin Honey pulled off the biggest shocker in the 12th and final qualifying race of the series with a 1-1/2-length triumph in 30.99 seconds.

SE’s Wepon X finished tied for fourth in the point standings with 35, while CH Nuttin Honey ranked sixth at 33.

Joining them in the finale are: John Valazquez (Capabal) at 54 points, Imark Keefer (Abernathy) at 48, RT’s Bo Jangles (Cal Holland) at 44, Light Her Up (Abernathy) at 35, Kaias Blackjack (Floyd) at 31, and PJ Backupoffme (Rangel) at 27.

Post positions for Saturday’s featured 10th race at 9:47 p.m. will be drawn Thursday.
