Ninety-six young pups and their owners put up $2,100 each in hopes to win the championship in the rebirth of one of the most exciting races (and formats) of all time when the 2018 Great American Greyhound Futurity returns once again to the greyhound racing scene at Southland Park in April.

Reliving moments from the 1990’s and the excitement this event brought to the history of the sport at The Woodlands in Kansas City, Kansas under the mind and guidance of Jim Gartland were the primary drivers to bring the event back to life again. Once billed as the richest single race in America, the Great American Greyhound Futurity brought national attention and many big names and crowds to the track during the heydays of The Woodlands. While you can relive those days through videos on YouTube, the hope is to bring that level of excitement back to the live crowd at the track during a championship race to be held this year on Saturday, May 5th.

Open to only greyhound whelped between July 1 and December 1 of 2016, each greyhound’s owner had to make a series of eight payments (the last one being $1,000 per pup) to gain a spot in this stakes event. Six qualifying rounds (with only one cut coming after round 3) will determine which eight will gain a spot in the championship race, with the added purse expected to top $200,000.

Be sure to catch all six rounds plus the championship of this exciting event as they occur. The rounds will be contested on:

· 1st Round – Friday, April 6th

· 2nd Round – Wednesday, April 11th

· 3rd Round – Sunday, April 15th

· 4th Round – Friday, April 20th

· 5th Round – Wednesday, April 25th

· 6th Round – Sunday, April 29th

· Championship/Consolation Races – Saturday, May 5th
