Wheeling weekend handle tops $3.2 million

Wheeling Island’s Labor Day weekend handle topped $3.2 million.

            The handle represents the amount of money bet on Wheeling greyhound races from on-track patrons and from simulcast outlets.

            The Wheeling handles for the weekend follow: Friday, Aug. 30, $1,084,383; Saturday, Aug. 31, $1,141,163; and Sunday, Sept. 1, $1,002,098. The total handle for the 3-day period was $3,227,644.

            Including Thursday, Aug. 29, the 4-day handle last week topped $4 million – $4,032,083.

            The Wednesday, Aug. 28, program was cancelled last week due to extreme heat conditions, and Wheeling didn’t race on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2.
