  • PBKC PRESENTS THE 44TH RUNNING OF THE $50,000 ARTHUR J. ROONEY, SR. ST. PATRICK'S INVITATIONAL | National Greyhound

< Back PBKC PRESENTS THE 44TH RUNNING OF THE $50,000 ARTHUR J. ROONEY, SR. ST. PATRICK'S INVITATIONAL Mar 12, 2020 West Palm Beach, Fl. - Post positions have been drawn and it’s time for the Greyhounds to do all the talking, as Palm Beach Kennel Club’s prepares for its biggest, most fun and exciting day of the year, the 44th and final running of the $50,000 Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. St. Patrick’s Invitational Saturday evening, March 14. At the press conference and post-position draw, it was evident by the attendee’s applause who drew the best starting positions. First up was the Koppe, Staats & Collins Kennel’s $50,000 He’s My Man Classic Champion Pat C Dewdrop who drew post number one. Very nice indeed. Next up was the draw for Rader Racing Kennel’s Sarahdipedy . In the best possible scenario for this impressive youngster, she drew the number eight position. For Rader Racing Kennel to win their sixth Invitational, Sarahdipedy will most likely have to pass perhaps up to three other entries, the above-mentioned Pat C Dewdrop , Mister Red Rader and JGO Rocky Rhoade , and she is very capable of doing just that. As for the $50,000 Arthur J Rooney, Sr. St. Patrick’s Invitational entries to look for late in the race are the strong rushers/closers Donta Ripper , NB’s Wild Shot and the $50,000 James W. Paul Derby winner Slatex Beretta . The “Luck of the Irish” will be smiling on one of these elite eight illustrious and deserving athletes: 1. Pat C Dewdrop (Kiowa Myth – Pat C Whereby, Koppe, Staats & Collins) 2. Donta Ripper (CTW Pipe Down – Good Luck Ruby, D. Q. Williams Kennel) 3. Barts Sea Haw k (Gold Town* - Seadon Traveler, James Douglas Kennel) 4. Mister Red Rader (Flying Titanium – Rip N Runnin, B & B Racing Kennel) 5. NB’s Wild Shot (Jimbo Acorn – NB’s Nice N Easy, Royal Racing Team) 6. JGO Rocky Rhoad e (Crown And Crest – Kiowa Kay Tipton, Ryan Racing) 7. Slatex Beretta (Flying Fired Up – Slatex Albany, Janie Carroll Kennel) 8. Sarahdipedy (Superior Panama – Joy Giovanni, Rader Racing Kennel) The 44th running of the $50,000 Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. St. Patrick’s Invitational will be held in Saturday evening’s sixth race with an approximate post time of 8:15 p.m. Palm Beach Kennel Club honors Arthur J. Rooney Sr. and honors his legacy with our annual St. Patrick’s Invitational. "The Chief" was the founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, established in 1933 and bought the Palm Beach Kennel Club in 1970 and Yonkers Raceway in 1972. • ROUND1 OF BESTBET SPRINT CLASSIC | National Greyhound

< Back ROUND1 OF BESTBET SPRINT CLASSIC Feb 17, 2020 Another great stakes race is upon us here at bestbet Jacksonville. The 2020 edition of the bestbet Sprint Classic gets underway this Monday February 17th and will follow the normal pattern of past. Round 2 will run on Friday evening February 21st and round 3 will follow on Monday February 24th. The semi-finals will run on Leap Day this year, Saturday February 29th, with a special all distance card and cash giveaways, followed up by the finals on Saturday evening March 7th where we see the return of our fan favorite Money Machine promotion. Don’t miss out on the great racing, fun, and cash we have in store over the next serval weeks here at bestbet Jacksonville. Now let’s take a closer look at the 8 full races of greyhounds that will be competing in the first round of the stakes. Round 1 of the bestbet Sprint Classic – Monday Evening February 17th, 2020 Race 2 – Back to 550 and back winning for super pup Super C Addison. No lead is safe as she finds her break and proves best late. Setting the pace and challenging all the way to the wire on the front end should be the well posted CTW Ax Paris, but don’t count out the always stalking threat LK’s Effingham and the I could surprise them all late runner Pat C Mythic. (5-1-7-6) Race 4 – Speaking up super pups, Pat Collins has a bunch right now including Pat C Adieu. The only solid grade A winning threat with 4 wins in 6 races. Easy pickings! Penrose Boss is no slouch either and should challenge late. The derby champ moves to 550 for this one and gets her best 8 box, but can she hang at the shorter course. And early Mo’s Tom will be a factor, but late we all know what happens. (7-6-8-1) Race 5 – Evenly matched up race here where all the action might just be taking place outside. Three solid grade A competitors all have a chance to win, but Easi Conroy get the slight nod. With 3 wins in 4 efforts, he is the choice. JW Sour Grapes might not win a lot but has been a pressing forced in 6 straight races. WW Independence will follow the leaders and factor in the outcome, but if you want a longshooter in this effort, eye the one dogs. Super C Trivia has the post and potential and will be coming on late. (6-5-1-7) Race 7 – Rounding back into form, Pat C Dragnet is poised to make some noise in round 1. Posted well inside and hot off of recent back to back wins he will be tough to beat when he gets the lead. Threatening the leader should be the solid grade A closers, Lee Danger and SE’s Dig, but both would rather be inside, instead of stuck outside at the break. That both from the outside. Surfin Sonny could be an early threat as well, but late he is not match for the closers as they approach wire. (3-6-7-2) Race 9 – There are always someone with a faster time, someone that looks more impressive, but winning is the name of the game and Pat C News has that in the bank! The win leader last year, and champ of several stakes’ events, he just knows how to get it done. A tremendous break and holding on late has done his well in the past. Expect more of the same. All out FIERCE competitor WW Blazin Crest is as fast as she wants to be and could GO BY late if she wanted to. LK’s County gal gets a look as well with good stalking speed and an ideal post position, and don’t sleep on rising star Dutch Hoagie either. This closer has jumped up the ranks recently and is at the top of his game right now. (3-7-1-4) Race 10 – Pat C Big Daddy shine brightest in this otherwise evenly matched up field. Winning 3 of his last 5 races in grade A, he clearly is the one to beat here, especially from a good inside post position. Trying to take him down will be the likes of the late driving threat Common Grounds, along with the on again, off again runners WW Whirlpool and Oshkosh Hoggy. (3-6-1-7) Race 11 – Another super pup for Pat Collins and this one is lightening fast! From a perfect post, this could get really ugly my friends. Last time out in the 8 box, a 30.20! Enough said! Solid grade A threats Phantom Petunia and Morgan Fairchild should challenge from the inside. Both have not run over 31 seconds in 6 straight races and have finished in the money in 10 of the last 12 races combined. LK’s Livin Lucky might be down a grade here but seems to be getting back into the mix and could surprise in the money tonight. (8-1-2-4) Race 12 – Rested and ready to roll, Lee Liam is back and looks like the rest of the field has been put on notice. This pup was on the way to the finals of the last stakes event, before being scratched and now appears to have picked right back up where he left off. He will not be alone here though as there is some serious speed around him. Signature Strut has 3 2ins in 6 races in A and a 30.27 last time out. Pat C Jacob is back from the 660 stake likes the rail, gets close here, and can also run in the 30.20’s. Let’s not forget the hot and cold running Ginger Bread Man either. His last effort is hard to ignore as he won by 10 from a similar post in 30.13 seconds. If they all come to run, this could be highly contested event. (6-5-3-7) Previous Next

  • BLANCHARD CAPTURES 2019 WHEELING KENNEL CHAMPIONSHIP | National Greyhound

< Back BLANCHARD CAPTURES 2019 WHEELING KENNEL CHAMPIONSHIP Stan Pawloski Jan 13, 2020 When the Blanchards were booked at Wheeling Island in July 2017, trainer James E. Blanchard was confident the kennel would be competitive. He was right. After posting nearly 300 wins in just a half season of racing their first year, Blanchard battled the Lester Raines Kennel down to the wire in 2018 before coming up two wins short of the kennel championship. In 2019, the Blanchard Kennel took command a couple months in and never looked back in capturing their first kennel crown at Wheeling Island. The Blanchard Kennel amassed 575 victories in 2019, just off their 581 total the year before. Defending kennel champion Lester Raines took runner up honors with 507 wins, while Jacobs Racing finished third with 497. For Blanchard, their goal every year is to shoot for the top spot. “It’s a great feeling to win the kennel championship after being so close the year before … we worked hard for it which makes it special, a big accomplishment. To be top kennel, you need to have a lot of talented greyhounds and be lucky,” Blanchard said. “Wheeling is a forgotten gem. We aren’t booked at Southland, but we treat this place as our Southland. That’s another reason why we’ve been successful in Wheeling.” The Blanchard family also has two bookings at Orange Park in Florida – the Jim Blanchard Kennel and the Double J Kennel – which they use as a stepping-stone to Wheeling. “We break in most of our pups at Orange Park before picking the ones we feel will be a good fit for Wheeling. We like to give them 20 to 25 starts so they can learn how to race and get experience,” Blanchard said. “The hard work put in by my father Jim, trainers Mark Blair and Chris Maynard as well as their employees at Orange Park is a big factor in keeping us competitive at Wheeling.” Next in line behind Blanchard (575), Lester Raines (507) and Jacobs Racing (497) in the final 2019 standings were Patriot/Taplin (494), Brad Boeckenstedt (451), Charter (442), Xtrem Hess Racing (429), Steve Sarras (417), Abrahamson (416), Rangel (415), Wayne Ward (394), Imark (346) and A Ray (341). The Blanchard Kennel had nine greyhounds reach double figures in wins, including three in the racetrack’s top five – L’s Griz (25), High Wire Willy (19) and L’s Luv It (18). “L’s Griz is the best greyhound I’ve ever raced … he can do it all – go to the front or come from behind. L’s Luv It has been so consistent and can race from any hole which is a big advantage at Wheeling,” Blanchard said. “High Wire Willy has been a diamond in the rough. He came in from Ebro and turned into one of the track’s top 330-yard sprinters.” Other double-digit winners for the Blanchard Kennel were Arkans Scrappy (13), Vicki Of Ruckus and For The Birds (12 each), GR’s Breeze (11), Disco Mania and JW Concepcion (10 each). Three greyhounds had nine victories each – LNT Batman, LNT Iron Man and Priscilla Barnes. Blanchard credited his Wheeling crew – wife Sarah Blanchard, Sheri Comer and Gina Hall – for playing a key role in the kennel’s success in 2019 as well as the owners of greyhounds leased to the kennel to race. “They’ve all been a part of our success and we couldn’t do it without them,” Blanchard said. “They are a big part of our team.” As for 2020, Blanchard expects a competitive fight for the top spot in the kennel standings. “A lot of our top greyhounds are getting a little older, so we need to rebuild our kennel,” Blanchard said. “Hopefully we have a good group of pups come in this year. It’ll be a battle again, but I love the competition.” Handling the greyhounds is a passion for Blanchard, too. “I’ve been around greyhounds my whole life. It’s what I want to do,” Blanchard said. “Each day I wake up and can’t wait to get to the kennel. How many young kids want to grow up and be a greyhound trainer? Not many, but I did.” While Blanchard garnered the most wins in 2019, Patriot/Taplin had the most seconds (556). Blanchard was tops in thirds (544) and fourths (524). Blanchard and Jacobs Racing were the leaders in win percentage with 14 percent followed by Lester Raines, Brad Boeckenstedt and Charter with 13 percent. Jacobs Racing led all kennels with a 42 percent trifecta mark. Blanchard and Lester Raines were next with 40 percent. Topping the charts in starts was Blanchard (4,075) followed by Patriot/Taplin (4,020) and Abrahamson (3,672). Previous Next

  • RF JUANITA CAPTURES FUTURE STARS STAKE | National Greyhound

< Back RF JUANITA CAPTURES FUTURE STARS STAKE Oct 6, 2021 RF Juanita celebrated her second birthday with a victory in Iowa Greyhound Park’s Future Star stakes Saturday, Oct. 2. The red and fawn female broke well and used her strong cornering skills to post a nearly two-length victory. “She needed to get out fast to get a chance to win it,” said Jerry Cole, Superior Kennel trainer. RF Juanita, starting from the 3 box, was in a group with box neighbors BGR Big Foot Joe, of Boeckenstedt Kennel, and North End Jill, of Copper Kettle Kennel. As they neared the first turn, Juanita started to separate. “Once she got her nose in front, I started looking for the 1 (BGR Bottom Up) and 8 (BGR Twistedsista). They were the two main threats.” She powered through the corner to extend a lead she never relinquished. “She runs turns really great,” Cole said. “It obviously helped her tonight.” She posted a 31.35.Others on the board were BGR Bottoms Up, BGR Big Foot Joe and BGR Twistedsista. All are from Boeckenstedt Kennel. The rest finished as follows: KW Bugatti (Jackson Greyhounds), BGR Half Rack (Boeckenstedt Kennel), North End Jill (Copper Kettle Kennel) and Eager Erlene (Copper Kettle Kennel). The purse for the Future Stars was $30,000. The earnings by finish are: $12,000, $6,000, $3,000, $2,400, $2,100, $1,800, $1,500 and $1,200. T’s Capt Phasma, of T and T Kennel, won last year and Revin Devon, of Copper Kettle Kennel, won in 2019. Juanita has been in the money in 25 of 26 races this season. “I can’t believe what she’s been doing. She’s absolutely having a great season,” Cole said. “She’s a very special dog and she’s getting better each time. “I’m pleased at the way she’s been running,” Cole said. “And I’m happy for how well she’s doing.” Even as the 2021 season nears its end, there are more races in store for the now 2-year-old from Gable Sour Cream and RF River. RF River won the King and Queen stakes at Iowa Greyhound Park in 2017 and the Iowa Breeders’ Cup in 2016. The Iowa Breeders’ Cup is in the works, along with a couple of stakes the final day of the season on Oct. 31, the Secretary’s Choice and the Au Revoir. The Breeders’ Cup final is Sunday, Oct. 24.
