He has been a huge supporter of the NGA Spring & Fall Meets and Auctions. Selling most of his greyhounds at the meets. He also raced many years in Texas. He still resides in Thorndale where he has lived most of his life with his late wife Darlene and daughters Holli (Derrick VanWest)& Laci Hooper. < Back NEW ATTRACTION IN ABILENE Jan 11, 2023 At 19 feet 10 ½ inches wide and 13 feet 11 ¼ inches tall (not including the frame), Abilene, Kansas, is now home to the World’s Largest Belt Buckle. Designed by local artist Jason Lahr, Fluter’s Creek Metal Works, the buckle features Dwight D. Eisenhower, Wild Bill Hickok, Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad, Historic Seelye Mansion, C.W. Parker carousel horse, C.L. Brown telephone, a racing Greyhound and Chisholm Trail longhorn inlaid with blue quartz. The buckle is a project of the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau which hopes the new roadside attraction will entice travelers to stop and visit the Best Historic Small Town. “Whether you enjoy Cowboy history, art, fun photo opportunities or the world’s largest things, make sure to add the World’s Largest Belt Buckle to your Kansas I-70 road trip,” said Julie Roller Weeks, Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau director. The project is funded by a Kansas Tourism Attraction Development Grant and from donations from 100 businesses and individuals. The buckle garnered nationwide attention when Jefferson White, a.k.a. “Jimmy” from the hit tv show Yellowstone shared about the project. Earlier this month, True West Magazine also named Abilene the recipient of its Readers’ Choice Best Promotion of a Historic Place award. < Back FAVORITES POST WINS IN FIRST ROUND OF WVGOBA PANHANDLE SPRINT Stan Pawloski Oct 10, 2022 Four favorites posted opening round victories as the $65,000 West Virginia Greyhound Owners and Breeders Association Panhandle Championship kicked off Friday afternoon at Wheeling Island. Heading into the Wednesday, Oct. 12, second round, CET Barracuda, RS’s Dark Night, CET Moto Moto and CET Dirty Dan have each accumulated 15 points on the strength of their first-round victories to top the leaderboard. The semi-finals are set for Sunday afternoon, Oct. 16, and the stake final is scheduled for the Friday, Oct. 21, matinee card. Capsule looks at the first-round races follow: CET Barracuda jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in winning by 7 ½ lengths in 30.20. TS Pretty Boy and RS’s Power House rounded out the trifecta ticket. RS’s Dark Night rushed to the top early and was never challenged in posting a 4-length victory in 30.20. CET Fernando and RS’s Railhauler completed the trifecta. CET Moto Moto closed in the homestretch, getting up by a length at the wire in 30.78. RS’s Happyharper finished second as frontrunner CET Dirty Mike held on for third. CET Dirty Dan powered to the front early and won easily by 4 lengths in 29.82. Registering opening round victories were Patriot/Taplin Kennel’s Coach Oh Boy, a 16-1 shot, Lester Raines Kennel’s Baby Face Nelson and Abrahamson Kennel’s Go On Horse. Each accumulated 15 points to top the leader board heading into the Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 16, second round. The semifinals will be held on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 20. The juvenile championship final is scheduled for Saturday matinee, Sept. 26. Following are capsule looks at the three first round races: Coach Oh Boy closed in the stretch to post a 1 ½-length victory in 30.79. CET Sophia was second while Mac’s Tayloranne rounded out the trifecta ticket. Baby Face Nelson jumped out to an early lead and was never headed in winning by 1 ½ lengths in 30.25. CET Abercrombie was second while CET Ozzy settled for third. Go On Horse roared out to a big early lead and was never challenged in romping to a 5 ½-length win in 30.25. < Back Pup Giveaway Results Jim Gartland Oct 28, 2024 Another successful pup giveaway culminated with three lucky winners being drawn during Thursday night ceremonies at the Hall of Fame during the recent fall meet. The first pup offered was donated by Kevin Fulton and was won by Paul Taylor of San Tan Valley, Arizona. Paul is the proud new owner of a brindle male pup out of Superior Panama-FGF Janet whelped in August of 2023. The second drawing of the night was for a female pup out of Lonesome Cry-RPG Black Ice whelped in February of 2024 and donated by Gus Cerino. The pup was won by Stephanie Barnes of California. The final pup given away on the evening was another female from a September 2023 litter out of Gigawatt-Flying Targaryen. This pup was offered for the giveaway by Marcia Davis. She was won by another Arizona resident, Trish Cescolini of Cave Creek. We would like to thank Kevin, Gus and Marcia for their generosity and congratulate the winners.
