The CET Kennel sprint star, sent to post as the overwhelming favorite, rocketed right to the front from the seven box and was never seriously challenged in winning by 1 ½ lengths in 29.84. Superior Kennel’s Superior Bonnie took runner up honors while Double G Kennel’s Flying Okahana rounded out the trifecta ticket. Completing the final finish were John J Rambo (RS Racing Kennel), fourth; Fly L Donald Jr (Double G Kennel), fifth; KBJ Powerplay (RS Racing Kennel), sixth; RS Felicha (Lester Raines), seventh; and Turbo Rayo (RS Racing Kennel), eighth. Hi Noon Ruger, the Derby Lane meet win leader, left the Florida West Coast track in style on Saturday in what may have been her final start in the Sunshine State. After scoring her eighth victory from 10 starts at the current six-month meet, Hi Noon Ruger was scheduled to leave Derby Lane today (Monday) for Southland Racing in West Memphis, Ark., where racing purses are higher. Nova kennel manager and trainer Missy Kubitz announced the move on Saturday, hours before her dog’s four-length victory in 30.65 seconds - the second fastest time among 111 greyhounds who competed that evening on the 550-yard course. It was her career-tying fourth consecutive victory, and eighth win in the past nine outings. “I will miss her a lot,’’ Kubitz said. “She’s on top of my list for my favorites. She gets her McDonald’s biscuit and egg every day.’’ Hi Noon Ruger, a 28-month-old female from a litter by two-time All-America first-team member SH Avatar and Hi Noon Wheezy, leaves Derby Lane with three more victories than any greyhound since the current meet began July 1. All eight wins came at the Grade A level, helping the Hans Limmer-owned Nova kennel to a 30-16 advantage over Lashmet for most top-grade victories at Derby Lane. Owned by Charles Haliburton III, Hi Noon Ruger will be relocating for the fourth time since starting her career in October 2019. She ran two stints at Derby Lane sandwiched between a two-month stay earlier this year at Gulf Greyhound Park in La Marque, Texas. Only two of Hi Noon Ruger’s 17 career wins came in the Lone Star State, where she made five starts. At Derby Lane, the 63-pound athlete prevailed in 15 of 29 races – all at 550 yards. Ask Kubitz one of the things that she remembers about Hi Noon Ruger and it doesn’t take long to answer. “Her first (official) race at Derby Lane,’’ Kubitz said. On Oct. 26, 2019, Hi Noon Ruger was the 7-5 wagering favorite in her career debut after finishing first and third in two schooling races. She failed to finish the race. “In her first maiden race, she got over to the far turn (entering the stretch),’’ Kubitz said. “She had to be four or five (lengths) in front, and she stopped. Her ears went up, and she ducked into the rail. The lure had gone through the turn already, and she lost sight of it and she stopped. She thought the race was over.’’ The comment in her racing line reads: “Checked (on the) second turn-rail.’’ After that, Hi Noon Ruger began to shine. She won three subsequent schooling races by a total of 16 lengths, and finished first in her next two official starts by three and two lengths, respectively. Hi Noon Ruger advanced to Grade A on June 6, where she has been ever since – winning 11 of 16 races. Her only two losses at the current meet were a pair of seconds, losing by a nose and a neck, respectively. Hi Noon Ruger’s career-best time at Derby Lane was 30.41 seconds. “When I first broke that litter in, I thought (Hi Noon Ruger) was the fastest one,’’ Kubitz said. “She was just so fast. . . . She didn’t know how fast she could run. “She had to mature. It took her until this year to really figure it out. “She doesn’t have any box speed, but she’s got a good rush to the turn, and then she can just go from there. She’s got late speed, so she can come from behind and catch you. She’s just so calm. You open her crate and she rolls over and you can pet her belly. . . . She smiles from ear to ear with that big old toothy grin. “It’s a pleasure just to watch her.’’ Previous Next

Heading into the Wednesday, Sept. 15 second round, both sprinters have accumulated 15 points to top the leader board. The semi-finals are set for Sunday, Sept. 19, and the juvenile stake final is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25. Capsule looks at the first round races follow: RS’s Im All In, an overwhelming favorite in his race, rocketed to an early lead and never looked back in winning by 15 lengths in 29.49. Mac’s Evita and Mac’s Zhivago rounded out the trifecta ticket. Mac’s New York, sent to post at nearly 7-1 odds, posted a box-to-wire 5 ½-length victory in 30.03. < Back BB Treetop Lover breaks Wheeling 3/16th track record Stan Pawloski Apr 21, 2026 BB Treetop Lover has raced his name into the Wheeling record books. On Wednesday afternoon, April 1, the Lester Raines Kennel 330-yard super sprinter broke the 3/16th track record when he stopped the clock in 16.50 seconds. Breaking from the five box, BB Treetop Lover grabbed an early lead and never looked back in posting a 2-length victory in a Grade TAA race. The old mark of 16.65 was set by JS Cowboy Joe (Lester Raines Kennel) on Aug. 2, 2025. Before JS Cowboy Joe set his mark, another Lester Raines greyhound, Atascocita Santo, and UBX Crackereater (Xtrem Hess Racing Kennel) shared the record with a 16.74 time. PAUL 3/8THS MILE DERBY Feb 18, 2020 West Palm Beach, Fl. – After an exciting set of second round qualifiers, round-three action for the 89th and final running of Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $50,000 James W. Paul Three-Eighths Mile Derby takes place Wednesday afternoon, February 13. Four qualifying races will be held, with the top 16-point earners advancing to the semifinals Sunday afternoon, February 23. After two rounds of qualifying, only one entry has a shot of entering the semifinals undefeated, Koppe, Staats & Collins Kennel’s Pat C Snickers (Pat C Clement – Pat C Deception). A quick look at the round-three qualifiers: Race 10 : This event features three athletes who drew in favorable post positions, #1 O Ya Praire Wind (Oya Stan The Man – O Ya Chewie, Lester Raines Kennel), #6 JD Android (JD Titanium – Allisonracinteam, Brindle) and #7 Buyusumnewshoes (Superior Panama – Joy Giovanni, Rader Racing). All three have already secured a spot in the semifinals, but it is important to build up that point total to be guaranteed a slot in the finale. Race 12 : There’s no doubt that the fan favorite will be #7 B’s Cappuccino (SH Avatar – Oaks Mocha, Janie Carroll). Sandwiched between the slow slowest breakers in the race will give Cappuccino a clear shot at garnering the early lead. Race 14 : The post-time favorite appears to be #3 Slatex Beretta (Flying Fired Up – Slatex Albany, Janie Carroll). With two of the race’s slowest breakers to her immediate right, Beretta should be able to outrush the competition to the first turn. However, keep a keen eye on #2 NB’s Bloodsister (Trent Lee – NB’s Classic Cat, Royal Racing Team) who has a legitimate shot at getting loose early. Race 15 : This contest features the only undefeated Derby entry, #4 Pat C Snickers , and in actuality, this could be the easiest field she has faced in qualifying. A crisp and clean break most likely will lead Snickers to the semifinals with a clean record. Post time for the first race Wednesday afternoon is 1:00 p.m. The $50,000 James W. Paul 3/8ths Three-Eighths Mile Championship final will be contested Saturday afternoon, February 29, and is one of the nation’s longest-running stake events. < Back ROUND 3 OF 2020 ORANGE PARK DERBY Jan 21, 2020 Only three races left as the competition heats up in the 2020 edition of the Orange Park Derby. The best routers are still around, and the converted sprinters are making their cases as well. Loads of talent still in the mix as the 24 greyhounds head to post on money evening for the quarter finals. Let’s take a close look at the races and see if we can get the week started off on the right foot. Monday evening January 20th, 2020 – Round 3 of the Orange Park Derby Race 9 – Super C Addison is starting to figure out the distance and that is bad news for the rest of this field. Hot off an impressive win, she will thrive tonight as she is finally on the rail. UC Ricky Snickle won last time out too and has the early needed to see the lead again tonight. Holding on late will be his true hurdle to overcome. Pat C Jacob also got things righted last time out and might just have the best raw speed in the bunch. If he gets loose, watch out. WW Spending Time will contend early for sure with all the breaking ability but won’t be able to hand late with the closers. (2-7-4-3) Race 11 – Undefeated so far is RTSS Gonwitdawin. Posted up impressive back to back box to wire victors from outside post positions, more to come in this effort. No speed around here at the break and another wide box should equal a hat trick. Trying to take her down is the talented Fakeit To Makeit. With 5 quinielas in a row, including a pair of wins, she is no slouch, and if she hits the box, she might just upset the apple cart here. Don’t forget about the closers though. LK’s I Got this is a solid grade A that gets a good post and can challenge throughout, and BGR Woe Is Me is rising in the ranks, running hot in the rounds, and will come flying late to challenge. Race 14 – RPG Get You Back is the other undefeated greyhound in the stakes and looks to be the one to beat for the title. With 3 straight, and 5 wins in 6 races, she is the real deal. Out and gone early on is her motto, and tonight I just more of that happening. Trying to make her work for it will be Pat C Woozy. A huge winner in round 1, she found trouble in round 2 and finished out of the money. With a same post tonight, you don’t know just what you are going to get. If she clears early, it could be quite a race. WP’s Twisted Lady was hot heading into the rounds but has cooled off in the 2 efforts. Still in the money, but not breaking like she has in the past. If she can find that early foot, she too could throw her hat into the ring for the victory. Alcohol U Later is a closer over the distance and winning against the top tier might be too much to ask. Finding a spot in the money, well that is another. Look for her round out the superfecta tonight. (4-2-6-3) The semi-finals will run on Saturday evening January 25th at bestbet Jacksonville. < Back FINALISTS SET FOR WVGOBA JUVENILE Stan Pawloski Sep 21, 2020 Abrahamson Kennel’s Go On Horse tops all qualifiers for the Saturday afternoon, Sept. 26, final of the $35,000 West Virginia Greyhound Owners and Breeders Association Juvenile Stakes at Wheeling Island. Go On Horse posted his third consecutive victory Sunday afternoon in the semifinal round, bumping his point total to 45. The sprinter was the only greyhound to make it through the early rounds undefeated. Completing the championship final field are CET Motley Crew (Steve Sarras Kennel), 33 points; Baby Face Nelson (Lester Raines Kennel), 31 points; CET Wreckitralph (Steve Sarras Kennel), 27 points; Coach Oh Boy (Patriot/Taplin Kennel) and CET Dirty Dilly (Steve Sarras Kennel), 25 points each; CET Ozzy (Steve Sarras Kennel) and Mac’s Tayloranne (A Ray Kennel), 24 points each. Post positions for the final will be drawn later in the week. Also recording semifinal round wins Sunday were Lester Raines Kennel’s Baby Face Nelson and Steve Sarras Kennel’s CET Motley Crew. Mac’s Blackbird settled for third. Baby Face Nelson took charge early and was never challenged in winning by 4 ½ lengths in 29.77. CET Wreckitralph and CET Ozzy closed in the stretch to round out the trifecta ticket. CET Motley Crew drove to the front early and pulled away for a 5 ½-length victory in 30.21. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The senior citizen is crashing the party at the $18,000 1925 Historical Inaugural, Derby Lane’s oldest stakes race. On Saturday, Rich N Famous, the veteran Farmer Racing kennel dual-distance performer, faces a big test as he goes for his first career stakes championship in the 95-year-old event. The Inaugural, a 550-yard race, is the first of 12 events on Derby Lane’s 2020 stakes schedule. First place pays $7,700. Facing a field that includes two-time defending meet win leader LK’s Crush N It (Lashmet kennel) and rising sprinter Shoot The Breeze (Floyd), Rich N Famous advanced Wednesday with a solid third-place qualifying performance. The top four finishers in qualifying earned spots in the finale. Rich N Famous, a 50-month-old male from a litter by Kiowa Mon Manny and Fraulein Becky, is the oldest of 16 original entries. He is owned by Monte Jacobs of Claflin, Kan. “We’re just real proud of him that at this age, he can still compete with all the best dogs at the track,’’ Derby Lane kennel owner and trainer John Farmer said. “It’s just great breeding, and Monte Jacobs raises nice dogs that run this long and are so durable. . . . He’s running both distances (550 and 660 yards), too.’’ Rich N Famous ran third behind BD Wells (Everett Racing kennel) and 7-5 race favorite LK’s Santorini (Lashmet), both of whom broke alertly. BD Wells prevailed by two lengths with a clocking of 30.50 seconds, paying $5.80 as the 9-5 second-wagering choice. FGF Pass You By (Watson Racing) was fourth. “The 2 (LK’s Santorini) and the 4 (BD Wells) got a big break, and gave (Rich N Famous) plenty of room to rush up,’’ Farmer said. “He saw the gap, and rushed real well. The 5 (FGF Pass You By) got underneath (Rich N Famous) and knocked his rear end out a little bit, but he made a strong run at the end.’’ Joining Rich N Famous in the championship event (Race 10, 9:47 p.m.) are Shoot The Breeze, who won the other qualifier for his fourth consecutive victory; Flying Zigzag (Everett Racing), who edged the pace-setting and even-money favorite LK’s Crush N It for second place; and Where U Want Me (Bartley Corporation). Shoot The Breeze, the youngest finalist at 27 months old, won by one length in 30.30 seconds. He paid $9.60 to win as the second wagering pick under trainer Randy Floyd. LK’s Crush N It was making his first start following a 21-day rest, and can surpass $100,000 in career earnings if he is able to claim his fifth lifetime stakes title. LK’s Crush N It, who has 64 victories overall, is the defending Inaugural champion. This is the 10th stakes series and sixth finale for Rich N Famous, who will be making his 170th career start. After advancing to four of five title races at 660 yards, Rich N Famous will be racing in his second 550 championship event in five chances. He finished fifth on March 2 behind LK’s Crush N It in the $64,000 Sprint Classic, a 550 series. Rich N Famous’ best stakes finish came in the $25,000 St. Petersburg Derby on June 30, 2018, when he wound up third behind LK’s Payday (Lashmet kennel) at 660 yards. “He has switched his running style,’’ Farmer said. “He used to love to run wide all the time. But now, he tries to duck underneath the rail and get under (other dogs). He always looks for a hole and any kind of opening now. . . . He uses more racing smarts that racing ability.
