  • WP'S TWISTEDLADY TAKES TITLE | National Greyhound

< Back WP'S TWISTEDLADY TAKES TITLE Feb 10, 2020 The finals of the 2020 Orange Park Derby ran on Saturday evening February 1st at bestbet Jacksonville, and if you didn’t know any different you would have thought you were watching the race from 4 years ago. As the lure ran down the backside and passed the box, open it came, and out the greyhounds ran. To the lead was WP’s Twistedlady. Bombing to early command from the 8 box she was easily in front at the rest of the field started out in catch up mode. She was followed by UC Ricky Snickle and Pat C Jacob from the midtrack and the rest of the field chased just off the follower’s pace. As they rounded the early turn the separation had already started. Twistedlady was a couple of lengths clear of the rest as Pat C Jacob snuck by a settled into second and UC Ricky Snickle continued to pursue. Down the frontside they would go and no change to the order. Super C Addison would make a run up the rail as the bounded to the escape turn, but she was not threatening the lead. Twistedlady coasted on the front end as Jacob chased behind. Ricky was following and cut off Addison at the turn and she collided and jammed up the rest of the field behind her. Down the backside the leaders went and the separation from the rest of the field after the pile up was big. Twistedlady was in complete control and stretched her lead to 3 lengths by the far turn. Jacob continued to chase with Ricky in toe, but neither could make up any ground on the leader. Down the home stretch, no one was going to get to Twistedlady as she dug in deep and have a determined run for the finish line. Crossing 4 lengths better than the rest, she was the decisive winner at the wire in37.76 seconds. Jacob held off a late charge by Ricky at the wire to maintain in next best position at the finish. Ricky settle for third. Even after trouble, Super C Addison have a spirited late burst to draw away from the rest of the chasers and secure 4th place as the finish line. Rounding out the field was Pat C Woozy in 5th, RGP Get You Back in 6th, Fakeit To Makeit in 7th, and RTSS Gonwitdawin in 8th. WP’s Twistedlady is out of the 2016 winner of the Orange Park Derby, Seldom Told, and looked just like dear old dad in this effort. A superior box to wire front running win came from both as they dominated throughout, and were never challenged for the title. Congrats head out to Lady for keeping up the family heritage, her owner Wes Parvin, her trained Robert Allen, the Ancient City Kennel, and everyone else connected with this fantastic router. • James (Jimmy) Blanchard Elected To Hall of Fame | National Greyhound

< Back James (Jimmy) Blanchard Elected To Hall of Fame Jim Gartland Oct 8, 2024 Longtime kennel owner, operator, NGA Board Member and Florida political point man, Jim Blanchard was the lone nominee to receive enough votes for induction into the 2024 class of the Greyhound Hall of Fame. Jimmy was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1957. His mother and Father divorced and his Dad, Pat, moved to Florida in the early 60's where Pat fell in love with greyhound racing while working across the street from the Sanford-Orlando track. Spending the summers of his youth in Florida, Jimmy soon fell in love with the business as well. Jimmy spent years working on the farm and in kennels honing his craft and learning all he could about the greyhounds. By the time he was 18 years old, he was offered his first trainers job at Monticello and from there he would go on to train with various kennels at numerous tracks around the country. His first booking experience came as a partner with his Dad at Pensacola in 1981. His first solo booking would not come until 1994 when the Jim Blanchard Kennel made its debut at Naples. Since then Jimmy has run all over the country, with kennels at or near the top wherever he ran, most recently with double bookings at Jacksonville until the demise of Florida. His son James continues the family tradition with current bookings at Tri State and Wheeling. Along with his accomplishments on the racing side, Jimmy has long been a force in the industry as a board member of the NGA for some 20 plus years. He also served on the Board of the AGC for many years and was the main point man for the Florida Greyhound Association and their seemingly endless battles with the Florida track operators. Jimmy spent many, many days, weeks and years fighting for the betterment of the sport and of all the people involved in it, mostly at his own expense. He will be honored in ceremonies at the Hall of Fame during the 2024 fall meet. Previous Next

  • $100,000 MOUNTAINEER CLASSIC HIGHLIGHTS 2021 WHEELING STAKES SCHEDULE | National Greyhound

< Back $100,000 MOUNTAINEER CLASSIC HIGHLIGHTS 2021 WHEELING STAKES SCHEDULE Stan Pawloski Aug 4, 2021 In last year’s championship final of the $100,000 Mountaineer Classic at Wheeling Island, West Virginia-bred sprinter CG’s Penny Shoe closed deep in the stretch to give the Abrahamson Kennel and trainer Tom Engle their biggest stakes victory ever. CG’s Penny Shoe went on to earn 2020 first team All-American honors from the National Greyhound Association as well as a spot on the all-Wheeling team. The $100,000 Mountaineer Classic is back this year and highlights the 2021 stakes schedule for Wheeling Island. The racetrack’s featured stakes event is scheduled for October and is sandwiched between a pair of West Virginia Greyhound Owners and Breeders Association championships – a juvenile and a middle distance stake. The stakes schedule has been approved by the West Virginia Racing Commission. Just like last year, there is no start requirement for greyhounds coming in from other racetracks as well as Wheeling-based racers for the Mountaineer Classic. Greyhounds must only have one schooling race and need not have reached a certain grade to enter the stakes event. The winning greyhound will receive approximately 40 percent of the total stakes purse – a check of $42,000. Runner up is worth $18,000 with the third place finisher receiving $13,000 and fourth place getting $10,000. Fifth and sixth place will receive $5,500 each while seventh and eighth will get $3,000 apiece. There will be three qualifying rounds – Sunday, Oct. 3, Friday, Oct. 8 and Wednesday, Oct. 13 – before the semifinals on Sunday, Oct. 17. The championship final will be on Saturday, Oct. 23. The 2020 Mountaineer Classic had an opening field of 88 sprinters. The $35,000 WVGOBA Juvenile Stakes (5/16th) will be held in September. The first round is set for Friday, Sept. 10, the second round on Wednesday, Sept. 15 and the semi-finals on Sunday, Sept. 19. The juvenile stakes final is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25. The $65,000 WVGOBA Keystone Championship (3/8th) starts on Friday, Nov. 12, with the second round on Wednesday, Nov. 17. The semifinals will be contested on Sunday, Nov. 21. The Keystone stakes championship is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 27. Previous Next

  • CET DIRTY DILLY REPEATS IN RURAL RUBE, FGF DAVYCROCKETT SELECTED FOR FLASHY SIR IN 2022 AWARDS | National Greyhound

< Back CET DIRTY DILLY REPEATS IN RURAL RUBE, FGF DAVYCROCKETT SELECTED FOR FLASHY SIR IN 2022 AWARDS Jim Gartland Feb 21, 2023 A West Virginia speedster and a Southland distance star have been chosen as recipient's of the NGA’s annual Awards; CET Dirty Dilly returns as the repeat winner of the Rural Rube and Southland distance star, FGF Davycrocket t has captured the Flashy Sir. With no major stakes scheduled in 2022, the NGA awards took on a different look and voting method but, no doubt, the two winners were obvious selections. A 2018 daughter of SH Avatar-CET Dirty Nicki , CET Dirty Dilly continued right where she left off in 2021, tearing up the competition at Tri State on her way to a North American leading 40 wins on the year. Three different times during the season, she would go on seven race win streaks and would end the year on December 30th with an impressive ten length romp. She would finish out of the trifecta only once in all of her 48 starts finishing 7th in a race back in October where she encountered early trouble. She was also voted Captain of the All American team by the NGA. Owned and raced by Carl Tomblin II, Dilly was, obviously, the most consistent sprinter in the land over the past year. She won her first start in January and would win 39 more times including that last start in December. Dilly would finish the year with a 48-40-3-4-0 record, missing the pay sheet only once the entire year! A much deserved award for this fabulous sprinter. Congratulations to Carl Tomblin and all the connections of CET Dirty Dilly . FGF Davycrockett was a unanimous choice for the Flashy Sir award finishing the year as the win and money leader at Southland running strictly distance races. Crockett is a July 2019 son of Trent Lee-FGF Jamboree and was a Southland distance star for the Charter Kennel. Racing exclusively at 660 and 703 yards, Crockett was equally tough at either distance. His first win of the year came in January at 703 yards and his last at 660 yards in December. In between he would miss the pay sheet only five times over the course of the year. He finished with a 45-18-9-5-8 record and earned well over $300,000 for his efforts. Crockett , who was also named to the 2022 All American team, was raised and is owned by Kevin Fulton. Congratulations to FGF Davycrockett and all his connections! The 52nd Annual NGA Rural Rube and Flashy Sir awards will be presented at the awards ceremonies program at the Greyhound Hall of Fame on Thursday night, April 27, during the NGA's Spring Meet.
