The $65,000 West Virginia Greyhound Owners and Breeders Association Panhandle Sprint Championship kicks off Friday afternoon, Nov. 7, at Wheeling Island.

Eight kennels have entered a total of 42 greyhounds – 40 from Wheeling Island and only two, GLS Lucky Lass and GLS Top Lady, from Tri-State Greyhound Park.

In a stunning stake final last year, Steve Sarras Kennel’s SS Full Metal – sent to post at 13-1 odds – popped on top early from the two box and maintained his lead throughout in upsetting the field and capturing the WVGOBA Panhandle Sprint Stakes. SS Full Metal is entered in this year’s event.

The second round will be Wednesday, Nov. 12, and the semi-final on Sunday, Nov. 16. The Panhandle Sprint final is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 22.
