< Back NEW ATTRACTION IN ABILENE Jan 11, 2023 At 19 feet 10 ½ inches wide and 13 feet 11 ¼ inches tall (not including the frame), Abilene, Kansas, is now home to the World’s Largest Belt Buckle. Designed by local artist Jason Lahr, Fluter’s Creek Metal Works, the buckle features Dwight D. Eisenhower, Wild Bill Hickok, Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad, Historic Seelye Mansion, C.W. Parker carousel horse, C.L. Brown telephone, a racing Greyhound and Chisholm Trail longhorn inlaid with blue quartz. The buckle is a project of the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau which hopes the new roadside attraction will entice travelers to stop and visit the Best Historic Small Town. “Whether you enjoy Cowboy history, art, fun photo opportunities or the world’s largest things, make sure to add the World’s Largest Belt Buckle to your Kansas I-70 road trip,” said Julie Roller Weeks, Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau director. The project is funded by a Kansas Tourism Attraction Development Grant and from donations from 100 businesses and individuals. The buckle garnered nationwide attention when Jefferson White, a.k.a. “Jimmy” from the hit tv show Yellowstone shared about the project. Ciampa Apr 7, 2023 On the evening of Thursday April 6th, two of the better dogs clashed at Tri-State in the Grade AA 11th race. Empire Magnet - kennel name Empire - races for the McMillon/Ward Kennel. They are super proud of Magnet's record at Southland, and the talent the four year old 85 lb dog brought to the TriState kennel. Od Cardano - kennel name Roni - races for Double G Racing under trainer Greg Geter. The two year old 77 lb boy is owned by North Shore Kennel. So far in 2023, OD Cardano had 14 starts with 9 wins, 2 seconds and 1 fourth while Empire Magnet's record is 12 starts with 5 wins, 4 seconds and 1 third. With the field loaded into the start box, Empire Magnet was in the 7 box, and OD Cardano was in the 8 box. When the lid opened, the 2 box dog, GF Lucky Penny, got out in front. Both Empire Magnet and OD Cardano rushed the turn close together in second and third place. However, OD Cardano tried to get to the inside and bumped into Empire Magnet. Empire Magnet just kept running like nothing happened, but OD Cardano offstrided and dropped to fourth. Along the backstretch, OD Cardano got back on stride and was in third place. With GF Lucky Penny still in the lead coming into the stretch but taking a wide turn, Empire Magnet drives on while being chased by Od Cardano. Empire Magnet crossed the finish line first, with OD Cardano following for second place 1.5 lengths behind. When asked how trainer Christopher Grieb thought of Empire's effort, "He’s the biggest dog in the race and he’s got to act like it. He got to the turn in second and shoulder to shoulder with a dog who already had 9 wins this season. Empire being the bigger dog, put his shoulder into the other dog and kept his momentum." Following two rounds of point earnings, the original field of 56 hopefuls has been reduced to 32 athletes, all willing and eager to make it to the top 16. Three Greyhounds will enter round three undefeated, the early speedster Mister Red Rader , strong first-turn rusher Arkans Vega and the most impressive of pups, Sarahdipedy . Match ups on Wednesday afternoon’s stake-qualifying card include: Race 10 features the undefeated qualifying entry, #7 Mister Red Rader (Flying Titanium – Rip N Runnin, B & B Racing). His main competition to keep his three-race win streak alive will be the well-posted #1 Gettin The Money (Offfthebrakedrake – Goodluck Topaz, D. Q. Williams) and the two strongest closers in the race, #6 Arkansbdtxdinoco (Golden Squire – Arkans BD Cheeks, Royal Racing Team) and #8 Lonesome Jones (CTW Base Camp – Blazin Booty, Rader Racing). < Back PALM BEACH KENNEL CLUB REOPENING THIS FRIDAY 5/22/20 May 20, 2020 West Palm Beach, FL – Palm Beach Kennel Club plans to reopen on Friday, May 22. The poker room will open at 9am daily offering cash games. All other areas will open at 11:30am. The Paddock Restaurant is open for lunch daily and for dinners on Friday and Saturday. Live racing is scheduled daily with post time at 1pm and evening races take place Friday and Saturday at 7pm. Simulcast action is offered daily. Services will be limited. Upon arriving, there will be a Mandatory Visitor Screening Zone where guests will have their temperature checked and will be required to sign a waiver. PBKC will follow CDC guidelines and adhere to local government recommendations by operating at 50% capacity. PBKC utilized the downtime to deep clean the entire facility and to establish the “PBKC Clean Team”. The team will ensure the frequency of cleaning and sanitization of all public spaces with an emphasis on frequent contact surfaces including, but not limited to, door handles, handrails, betting machines, ATMs, counters, dining surfaces and seating areas, escalator, elevator and elevator buttons. < Back SLEEK 16 - HOUND MADNESS Shane Bolender Mar 19, 2021 After two rounds and 48 greyhounds eliminated, the “Hound Madness” Stakes whittled down to 16 greyhounds remaining after action on Thursday at Southland Casino & Racing. The West Region still has #1 seed AIR ACE in the mix, after the black male advanced in the opening round by beating #16 seed WHAT COMES NEXT and then winning his match against #8 seed BUG BRUSH to set up a match with the Cinderella story of this part of the bracket, #13 seed RAFE UP THERIVER. “RAFE”, racing for Bussmann-Balakas, LLC and trained by Kelly Everett squeaked by in the opening round by defeating #4 seed ATASCOCITA KERNS and followed that up by beating #5 seed MONSTER BOX to set up the show down on Monday with the region’s top seed. The other matchup in this region will be a “chalk” battle as #2 seed ARKANS PHERKAD (Darren Henry Kennel) rolled to victories over #15 seed GOOD WIN BOB in the opening round and then followed that up by beating #10 seed CTW OREO TRUFFLE. The #3 seed, PAT C RAM ROD coasted over #14 seed BGR SPOTTED COW and #11 seed OSHKOSH TOYE. Unless there is a major upset with the top seed on Monday, this side of the bracket is guaranteed to have no worse than a #1 vs. a #3 seed for a spot in the Furry Four. The Midwest Region has been the scene of upset carnage, with only the #1 seed, CRAIGIE DELAGATE looking like the best greyhound in the region after two rounds. The sixty-nine pound male trained by Monte Hoopes has won 7 of his last 8 races overall and cruised over #16 seeded AB ON THE ROCKS and #9 seed GONZ CANELO. He will face a dangerous #13 seed in AMF URUGUAY who dispatched #4 seed L’S BOZ in the opening round and #5 seed ARKANS ZINC in round 2. The bottom half of the Midwest region will be a battle of two middle seeds in #6 seed TMC’S SWEETCRAIG and #10 seed BOOTS RANDOLPH. The former took care of #11 seed KEY PLAYER in the opening round before pulling off a bit of an upset victory over #3 seed JS PRETTY FLY in round 2. BOOTS RANDOLPH’s opening round victory over #7 seed SUPERIOR PARKER didn’t raise many eyebrows, but the victory over #2 seed FGF MATHIAS in round 2 definitely perked some interest. The right side of the bracket containing the East and South Regions have been havens for “madness” with plenty of upsets. No #1 seeds remain in those regions, but both #2 seeds are hanging on strong. In the East, the biggest upset of the second round came here when #8 seed CTW CHIP N DALE (Robert Thorne, LLC) knocked off #1 seed and multiple stakes champion JS FLAMIN ACE to advance to the round of 16. He will face #5 seed ELIZA FRASER (Gloria Dorsey, LLC) who took care of business by knocking out #12 seed GONZ DANDELION in the opening round and #13 seed BARTS WILD GOOSE in round 2. The bottom half of that bracket will see #11 seed KB’S ROGUE (A Ray Kennel), who knocked out #6 seed HUMBLE YOURSELF in the opening round and got by #14 seed GO BON MAYHAM in round two get to go head to head against #2 seed JS KEEPHOPEALIVE (Lester Raines Kennel). Interesting note that in the first round, KB’S ROGUE actually won by a head over JS KEEPHOPEALIVE in the overall race of eight they were in together, but they were not bracketed against each other at the time. With just a four dog field for each of the four races in this upcoming round, this could prove key to a possible upset once again. The South Region will have at least one guaranteed Cinderella in the “GREYT 8” round as #9 seed KB’S MC QUEEN (Charter Kennel) will face off against #13 seed XM STRIDE N (T and T Kennel). Both these greyhounds were helped some along the way, with KB’S MC QUEEN getting to face #16 seed BYNGE DRINKIN after that greyhound pulled pff one of the greatest upsets in “Hound Madness” history when he knocked off #1 seed ARKANS RB TAZ in the opening round. XM STRIDE N got to face #12 seed WAGGING THE DOG when that greyhound pulled off an upset of #5 seed FLYING RAPIDFIRE in the opener. If XM STRIDE N advances on Monday, it will be the highest seed in the GREYT 8 round in the past six years. The other half of the South Region is more “normal” as two chalks set to battle it out. #2 seed ARKASKA KAREN (Darren Henry) breezed through #15 seed MR. MONEY BAGS and #10 seed IMARK BOOG in the first two rounds, while #3 seed ALADDIN (A Ray Kennel) took care of #14 seed KB’S AXELROD and #11 seed GUTHRUM to set up a good race between them next round. Catch all the action of this year’s “HOUND MADNESS” Stakes, with the “SLEEK 16” round this Monday. There will be four races of four greyhounds each with simple win and exacta wagering on each of those four races. The “GREYT 8” round will feature four match races on March 27 with the winners of those four races comprising the “FURRY FOUR” round on April 2. < Back RS'S DARK NIGHT WINS WVGOBA JUVENILE Sep 27, 2021 Lester Raines Kennel’s RS’s Dark Night romped to victory Saturday afternoon in the final of the $35,000 West Virginia Greyhound Owners and Breeders Association Juvenile Stakes at Wheeling Island. Breaking from the eight box, RS’s Dark Night rounded the first turn second to Code Red Kennel’s JA’s Croft before taking charge on the backstretch – pulling away to a 5 ½-length victory in 29.81. JA’s Croft took runner up honors while A Ray Kennel’s Mac’s New York rounded out the trifecta ticket. Completing the Juvenile final finish were RS’s Blue Heaven (Lester Raines), fourth; Mac’s Zhivago (A Ray), fifth; RS’s Prime Time (Lester Raines), sixth; Coach Wonder (Patriot/Taplin), seventh; and Mac’s Evita (A Ray), eighth. < Back GRAND FINALE DERBY FIRST ROUND RESULTS Dec 21, 2020 Hi Noon Recoil of Nova kennel clocked the fastest time in the Grand Finale Derby opening round on Saturday at Derby Lane. One of 32 greyhounds entered in the new 550-yard stakes, Hi Noon Recoil won his race by 2-1/2 lengths in 30.52 seconds - the best time among 221 greyhounds who competed in 28 races on the sprint course throughout the matinee and evening performances. Hi Noon Recoil, a 33-month-old son from a litter by SH Avatar and Hi Noon Wheezy, was among four first-round winners to advance to the next round on Wednesday’s matinee card. It was the 25th lifetime victory from 62 starts for the Missy Kubitz trainee. Hi Noon Recoil, owned by Charles Haliburton III, is making his Derby Lane stakes debut. He paid $6.80 as the second wagering favorite. Floyd kennel’s Kaias Martin recorded a box-to-wire five-length win in his qualifier, clocking a time of 30.58 seconds. He returned $5.40 as the race betting choice. Other first-round winners required photo finish results. Lester Raines kennel’s SB Fine Lines won by a neck in 30.82 seconds, paying $11.40 as the second wagering choice. Ventilator of Everett Racing kennel prevailed by a nose in 30.71 seconds. She returned $10.40 as the fourth betting pick. The top four finishers in each race comprise the 16-dog, two-race field on Wednesday. The top four finishers from those races move on to the championship race in a rare Sunday matinee performance, with each one receiving shares of a purse structure which totals a combined payout of $30,000. LK’s Crush N It of Lashmet kennel was not one of those to advance. The 2019 All-America first-team member finished seventh in his qualifier, seven lengths behind Fine SB Lines. LK’s Crush N It, a five-time stakes winner, has 92 career victories from 152 starts. LK’s Santorini, another Lashmet athlete who has locked up her first meet win title, did move on with a third-place showing in the race won by Hi Noon Recoil. She has 67 lifetime victories from 146 outings. Seven performances remain in the July-to-December meet, and Watson Racing continues to lead the kennel standings with 252 victories. The operation maintained its advantage with a 10-win effort in the past week. Everett Racing, a three-time kennel champion, picked up some ground with 12 victories, and trails Watson Racing by five wins. Reigning kennel champion Lester Raines put itself in contention to repeat with a phenomenal 20-win week over seven performances. Highlighted by six wins apiece on the Friday matinee and Saturday evening cards, Lester Raines raised its victory total to 246 – good for third place. Capabal kennel ranks fourth in the win race with 233, and Abernathy is fifth at 221. The only other operation to total double-digit wins in the previous week was Cal Holland kennel with 12.
