- All Star Teams | National Greyhound
Introduced in 2023 to recognize the most accomplished greyhounds in the United States, The All Star Team is four of the top greyhounds at Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras Tristate. NGA Board of Directors takes into account win totals, stakes wins and competition to determine that year's best of the best. All Star Teams Introduced in 2023 to recognize the most accomplished greyhounds in the United States, The All Star Team is comprised of the four of the top greyhounds at Wheeling Island and the top 4 at Mardi Gras Tristate. NGA Board of Directors takes into account win totals, stakes wins and competition to determine that year's best of the best. Filter by Year Select Year NGA All Star Teams Artex Pumba - Captain 2023 All Star Heading up the team is it's Captain, Artex Pumbaa (Flying Hydrogen-Arkans Cancer) who was the co-win leader at Wheeling and finished in the money in 82% of his starts. Perhaps the most steady and consistent greyhound at Wheeling in 2023, Pumbaa competed against the best, day in and day out, and closed the year winning six in a row. He would finish the season with a 51-22-8-6 record and the well earned reward as Captain of the 2023 AA team. Tenacity 2023 All Star The second youngest member of the team, Tenacity broke her maiden in March of 2023, reached AA in May, and never looked back picking up 17 of her 21 wins in the AA ranks. Her 21 wins tied her with Florentine for 2nd most at the meet. She could win from the lead or come from behind and when clear of traffic was perhaps the fastest greyhound at the track. Her final record was 50-21-10-5-6 for the 2023 season. CET Dirty Dilly 2023 All Star CET Dirty Dilly (SH Avatar-CET Dirty Nicki) receives national honors, once again, making it three straight years as a recognized All Star in the greyhound industry despite racing only half the year. "The Queen" retired in June of 2023 finishing with a 14 race win streak including the WBGOBA Sprint Championship. Her twenty two wins were good enough for 2nd in the final standings even though she had roughly half the starts of her competitors. She ended the year early with a 26-23-2-0-1 record. CET Dirty Dilly was Captain of the 2021 and 2022 All American Teams, the 2022 Rural Rube Winner. CG's Sun Storm 2023 All Star The youngest member of this year's squad is CG's Sun Storm (Jax Yardley-CG's Lady Bug) who broke in at Tri State in May and soon after became one of the top sprinters at the track. He won 24 races in 2023 including a couple at Wheeling. He finished 2nd in the WVGBOA Juvenile stake at Wheeling to littermate, CG's Honesty. He ran out of the money only once over the course of the year finishing with an outstanding 34-24-6-3-0 record. CG's Nail Biter (Captain) 2024 All Star A 2021 son of Jax Yardley-CG's Lady Bug, CG's Nail Biter finished with 36 wins for the year easily making him the top winning greyhound in America. He finished out of the money in only three of his starts all year. He had win streaks of 5, 7 and 8 (twice) over the course of the season and was easily chosen as the Best Sprinter for the year. He would finish the season with a 50-36-6-2-3 record and was also named Captain of the 2024 All Star team. Owned by Janice Abrahamson, Nail Biter was raced by the Abrahamson Kennel at Tri State . CG's Reactor 2024 All Star The final member of the team is from Tri State and joins two other littermates on the team. CG's Reactor (Jax Yardley-CG's Lady Bug) was a 19 race winner at the Charleston oval while finishing on the pay sheet 83% of the time. During a stretch from March 7th to July 26th, Reactor finished out of the quinella in only three races, running third in those efforts. His record for that period was 18-9-6-3 while compiling a masterful 42-19-9-6-1 overall record for the year. DD Florence 2024 All Star DD Florence (Oya Stan The Man-LK's Alexis ) led all greyhounds in wins at Wheeling in 2024 compiling a record of 61-23-9-8-6 despite missing a month of racing. She competed against the best, running with AA competition nearly the entire year. She managed to finish in the money 46 times in her 61 starts racing at the highest level over the 2024 racing season. FF Vespa 2024 All Star FF Vespa (Atascocita Gray-FF Biscayne). He finished the year with a 57-19-9-10-4 record including a couple of three and four race win streaks. The 2nd youngest All Star, Vespa was a force throughout the year racing against the best at Wheeling. His 19 wins were good for third best for the year at Wheeling and he finished in the money in over 73% of his starts. CG's Maggi 2024 All Star CG's Maggi was an almost unanimous choice for the best distance dog in the land award finishing the year with 14 wins (12 distance) at Tri State despite missing the last three months of racing. Moving to the backside in late March, she immediately went on a tear, winning nine of her first twelve starts including the $65,000 West Virginia Breeders distance stake. Maggi is a January 2022 daughter of CG's October-Jax Freida. She is owned by Janice Abrahamson and raced for the Abrahamson Kennel at Tri State. She finished her abbreviated racing year with a record of 37-14-4-3-6. Florentine 2023 All Star Florentine (Rob Gronkowski-PJ Sour Diesel) is a return honoree from last years' All American team. Florentine continued her winning ways in 2023, finishing tied for 2nd in wins at the Wheeling oval. Early speed is her game and although she may have lost a step, she was still tough to beat once on the lead. A couple of three and four race win streaks helped contribute to her overall record of 58-21-11-8-6. JSP Rayzendacash 2023 All Star Wheeling sprinter, JSP Rayzendacash (Superior Panama-Gonz Mani) who's 22 wins tied him for the win lead at the meet with Artex Pumbaa, many of those wins coming in dominant fashion. He finished the year with a 54-22-4-9-5 record including a couple of three and four race win streaks. JS Comin Undone 2023 All Star The only distance star to make this year's team, JS Comin Undone (Show On The Road-CH Keepin Faith), dominated 3/8ths mile racing at Tri State during 2023. He won 19 races over the 660 yard course despite missing an entire month of racing and finished in the money in 30 of his 37 starts. His record for the year was 37-19-5-4-2 and included 5 in a row in a September stretch winning one of those races by 12-1/2 lengths! JSP Burninmoney 2023 All Star The final member of the team is Tri State and American win leader, JSP Burninmoney (Show On The Road-Gonz Mani). His 34 win in 2023 were, by far, the most for any greyhound racing in the U.S. and ten wins ahead of the 2nd place finisher in the Tri State standings. He put together win streaks of seven and eight races during the year while dominating top level competition at the Charleston track. He finished in the money 45 out of 49 times with a final record of 49-34-6-4-1. CG's Sun Storm 2024 All Star CG's Sun Storm (Jax Yardley-CG's Lady Bug) receives national honors, once again, making his 2nd All Star team in as many years. Storm had another phenomenal year winning 22 races in just 29 starts between starts at Tri State and Wheeling and accomplished this despite missing three months of racing! He missed the pay sheet on only two occasions and joins two littermates, CG's Nail Biter and CG's Reactor, on this year's squad. He ended the year with a 29-22-4-1-0 record. JSP Burninmoney 2024 All Star Another returning member to this year's All Star team is JSP Burninmoney (Show On The Road-Gonz Mani), who battled injuries throughout the year and still managed to win 16 races. Missing nearly four months of racing limited the star to just 31 starts, but a couple of three and four race win streaks and consistent efforts throughout propelled him to a 77% in the money finish clip. The oldest member of this year's team, Burninmoney finished with a 31-16-4-3-1 record at Tri State. TNT Tarzan 2024 All Star A super sprinter joins the team for 2024 as TNT Tarzan (Djays Octane-SE's Nekoma), a 3/16ths specialist from Wheeling and the youngest member of the team, found his groove over the shorter distance and picked up 22 wins and 45 in the money finishes in 52 starts, with all but ten of those coming at the 3/16ths distance. After switching to the shorter distance in May, he quickly reeled of five straight wins and put together a couple of other nice win streaks along the way, earning the 2nd most wins at Wheeling. TR Hill 2024 All Star Wheeling's TR Hill (Konomi-JW Jamaica) makes this year's team off of a stellar season where he compiled a 56-17-15-9-7 record. Climbing back into AA in late February, he would never drop out of top grade contention for the rest of the year. His 57% quinella finishes and 85% in the money stats, put him near the top in the country in those categories. He had two, 3 race win streaks that helped his totals but consistency was the key to his All Star credentials, missing the pay sheet only eight times over the entire year.

- Year In Review: Highlights from Wheeling's 2019 Racing Season | National Greyhound
< Back Year In Review: Highlights from Wheeling's 2019 Racing Season Stan Pawloski Jan 9, 2020 Another thrilling and fun-filled season of Wheeling Island greyhound racing is in the books and more excitement is anticipated in 2020. There were numerous highlights on the track throughout 2019, including the $100,000 Mountaineer Classic, two West Virginia bred stake events and win streaks which generated plenty of fan interest. In addition, a number of youngsters broke their Maiden and look like future stars. Top greyhound honors went to Patriot/Taplin Kennel’s GF La Duena, who became the first Wheeling greyhound to reach the 30-win plateau since 2009 when Kiowa Power Pak posted 31 victories. La Duena posted 32 wins. The Blanchard Kennel, trained by James E. Blanchard, captured the 2019 kennel championship after finishing runner up to the Lester Raines Kennel in 2018. In the $100,000 Mountaineer Classic on a rainy day in late October, Wayne Ward Kennel’s WW’s Chewbacca took charge on the far turn before pulling away from Xtrem Hess Racing Kennel’s Axtrem Bomb, the early pacesetter, for a 2-length victory in 29.72 to capture the racetrack’s featured stakes event for 2019. Brad Boeckenstedt Kennel’s BGR Bonecrusher closed late to round out the trifecta ticket. Completing the final order of finish were L’s Luv It (Blanchard Kennel), fourth; L’s Griz (Blanchard Kennel), fifth; TNT Coal Trickle (Steve Sarras Kennel), sixth; AMF Bystander (A Ray Kennel), seventh; and Barts Sea Sail (Charter Kennel), eighth. WW’s Chewbacca broke in at Wheeling Island before a short stint at Southland Park. In the qualifying rounds, the sprinter was a mark of consistency – a win, a second, a third and a fourth in the four rounds. In the $35,000 West Virginia Greyhound Owners and Breeders Association Juvenile in late September, Abrahamson Kennel’s CG’s Sneaker rocketed to an early lead and then held off her brother CG’s Penny Shoe by a length at the wire in 29.84 to capture the stakes crown. Rounding out the trifecta ticket was CET Sassy (Steve Sarras Kennel). Completing the final order of finish were Mac’s Zaxxon (A Ray Kennel), fourth; CET Little Razz (Steve Sarras Kennel), fifth; TS Shaq (Steve Sarras Kennel), sixth; Mac’s Crabtree (A Ray Kennel), seventh; and TS Tito Ortiz (Steve Sarras Kennel), eighth. In the $65,000 WVGOBA Keystone Championship in late November, A Ray Kennel’s Mac’s Trudeaux pulled away in the stretch for a 6 ½-length victory in 38.11. Abrahamson Kennel’s MO’s Live Oak took runner up honors while Lester Raines Kennel’s RS’s Buckeyebuck rounded out the trifecta ticket. Completing the order of finish were CET Sassy (Steve Sarras Kennel), fourth; RS’s Hammerdown (Patriot/Taplin Kennel), fifth; CET Hellen Ann (Steve Sarras Kennel), sixth; Mac’s Murdoch (A Ray Kennel), seventh; and CET Earthquake (Steve Sarras Kennel), eighth. The longest winning streak during the 2019 racing season was seven in a row by Mac’s Glightfoot. The 3/8th racer, who came to Wheeling in March from Tri-State Greyhound Park, also had a six-race victory streak last year. Three other greyhounds had six-race win steaks in 2019 – GF La Duena (twice), BGR Later Gator and Flyin Michiyoshi (streak started in December 2018 and extended into January). Imark Grande won five in a row. Several other greyhounds captured four straight victories – GF La Duena, L’s Griz, High Wire Willy, FF Biscayne, Imark Solo, BGR Whysoserious, JS Drinkmepretty, TNT Coal Trickle, ZB Tremonti and JS Go Flex. There was an influx of greyhounds to Wheeling in 2019, most from Southland, Iowa and Derby Lane. Upcoming in 2020 are plans for the annual $100,000 Mountaineer Classic, two West Virginia-bred stakes races and possibly another event. Previous Next
- POST POSITIONS DRAWN FOR PBKC'S $50,000 ARTHUR J. ROONEY, SR. ST. PATRICK'S INVITATIONAL | National Greyhound
< Back POST POSITIONS DRAWN FOR PBKC'S $50,000 ARTHUR J. ROONEY, SR. ST. PATRICK'S INVITATIONAL Nov 5, 2020 Post positions have been drawn and it’s time for the Greyhounds to do all the talking, as Palm Beach Kennel Club’s prepares for its biggest, most fun and exciting day of the year, the 44th and final running of the $50,000 Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. St. Patrick’s Invitational Saturday afternoon, November 7. At the press conference and post-position draw, it was evident by the attendee’s applause who drew the best starting positions. First up was the draw for the James Douglas Kennel’s Barts Sea Hawk , the only entry who was in last March’s original Invitational field, who drew post number one. This is a great spot for Sea Hawk, who will be going for his fourth-consecutive victory. It will be difficult, if not impossible, to keep him out of the top three. Next up was the draw for D. Q. Williams Kennel’s Mineral Spirits . In the best possible scenario for this impressive youngster, he drew the number eight position. Spirts will also be going for four-straight wins and appears to have a clean rush to the first turn, thus giving him the nod as the one to defeat. Another $50,000 Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. St. Patrick’s Invitational entry who will be in the thick of things early on is Lester Raines Kennel’s #4 Bug Brush . Also going for a foursome of wins, Bug Brush will be right up there early with Barts Sea Hawk and Mineral Spirits. If he can build up a possible big early lead, then he could very well hold on for the victory. The “Luck of the Irish” will be smiling on one of these elite eight illustrious and deserving athletes: 1. Barts Sea Hawk (Gold Town* - Seadon Traveler, James Douglas Kennel) 2. JD Replicate (KC And All – JD Andromeda, Brindle Kennel) 3. Pat C Inferno (Flying Fired Up – Pat C Pop In, Koppe, Staats & Collins) 4. Bug Brush (SH Avatar – Flying Lipstick, Lester Raines Kennel) 5. Freedom’s Fawn (Buzz Around – Flying Unrest, Janie Carroll Kennel) 6. CBJ Shocker (Kiowa Mon Manny – CBJ Waterford, Arthur Agganis Kennel) 7. Opal Long (Pat C Clement – Winta Garoppolo, Radar Racing Kennel) 8. Mineral Spirits (Who Says I Can’t – Good Luck Ruby, D. Q Williams Kennel) The 44th and final running of the $50,000 Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. St. Patrick’s Invitational will be held in Saturday afternoon’s twelfth race with an approximate post time of 4:00pm. Palm Beach Kennel Club honors Arthur J. Rooney Sr. and honors his legacy with our annual St. Patrick’s Invitational. "The Chief" was the founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, established in 1933 and bought the Palm Beach Kennel Club in 1970 and Yonkers Raceway in 1972. He was also an outstanding athlete playing football, baseball and amateur boxing. He will always be remembered as one of the most popular figures in sports. - NATIONAL WIN LEADER: DOWN N DIRTY | National Greyhound
< Back NATIONAL WIN LEADER: DOWN N DIRTY Jim Gartland Jan 10, 2022 The race for the national win title was a runaway in 2021 as Carl Tomblin's CET Dirty Dilly easily outdistanced all others garnering 42 wins for the year. A Caliente product, Between the Linz, finished a distant second with 32 wins. The race was never really close as Dilly had won 21 races halfway through the year including an unbelievable 16 in a row from April 1 through July 2. CET Dirty Dilly is a December 2018 female out of SH Avatar-CET Dirty Nicki. She was raised and is owned by Carl Tomblin II and races for his CET Kennel at Tri State. Her accomplishments for the year included a couple of stakes wins, multiple win streaks and a track record setting performance on September 7 when the speedy female covered the 5/16 course at Tri State in 29.23. That record setting performance was the culmination of a nine race win streak. CET DIRTY DILLY Dilly in full stride Her first stake win came in the $65,000 WVKOBA Sprint Championship in June where she cruised to a thirteen length victory in what would be the 15th of 16 straight wins. After winning sixteen straight, she "cooled off" and ran 2nd, before beginning a win streak of nine straight that featured the track record setting performance. Finishing 2nd again in her next start, she took off again and won 12 of her next 16 including her final start of the year and a win in the $100,000 Mardi Gras Classic. Her final stat line for the year was 55 starts, 42 wins, 9 second place finishes and 1 fourth. 76% win percentage, 92% in the quinella and 94% on the paysheet, incredible numbers for an exceptional greyhound! Congratulations to Carl and all his team on the accomplishments of this great greyhound! Mardi Classic Winner's Circle Previous Next
