- HUSKER MAGIC ELECTED TO HALL OF FAME | National Greyhound
< Back HUSKER MAGIC ELECTED TO HALL OF FAME Jim Gartland Aug 8, 2022 105 race winner, Husker Magic, was the lone nominee to receive enough votes for induction into the 2022 class of the Greyhound Hall of Fame. Husker Magic was whelped April 23, 2012, and is owned by Terry & Lisa Haber, Jim & Kayruth Abernathy and Arthur Kaufman. She was whelped and raised on Terry & Lisa Haber's farm in Florida. She is out of Rhythmless and Casino Zada and is one of only six greyhounds in history to be named All American three times! She is the all time leading race winner at Derby Lane and accounted for 105 wins in her career. Magic broke in at Derby Lane in September of 2013 and went from Maiden to A in just six starts. She would never drop out of top grade competition over the next two and a half years winning a grade A event in her final start on June 21, 2016. She finished in the money 143 times in 163 lifetime starts. She made the finals of eleven stake races winning three and finishing 2nd four times. She was an All American in 2014, 2015 and 2016. In 2015 she was named Captain of the Team and was honored with the Rural Rube award as well. She captured the 2015 Derby Lane Sprint Classic and the BetAmerica 550 at Daytona Beach while winning 40 races for the year including eleven in a row from April 8 through May 22. Husker Magic was such a star at Derby Lane they named a stake race after her. She was extremely popular with the fans, a real crowd pleaser and a great ambassador for the sport. These days, Magic is enjoying retirement at the home of Daniel Robb in Ohio. Congratulations to Terry, Lisa, Jim, Kayruth, Arthur and everyone involved with Husker Magic on this great honor! - PALM BEACH KENNEL CLUB PRESENTS THE SEMIFINALS FOR OUR LAST $50,000 HE'S MY MAN CLASSIC! | National Greyhound
< Back PALM BEACH KENNEL CLUB PRESENTS THE SEMIFINALS FOR OUR LAST $50,000 HE'S MY MAN CLASSIC! Jeff Prince Jan 17, 2020 West Palm Beach, Fl. - Semifinal action for Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $50,000 He’s My Man Classic takes place Sunday afternoon, January 19. Two semifinal races will be contested, with the top eight-point scorers earning their way into the championship final slated for Saturday afternoon, January 19. Following 18 qualifying races, the sweet sixteen in point earnings will go muzzle-to-muzzle to determine which eight of these superstars will be going for the 2020 championship and the $25,000 first-place prize. After three rounds of qualifying its Rader Racing Kennel’s Sarahdipedy leads the semifinalists with a perfect 45 points, going undefeated through the first three qualifying rounds. Race 12 is a wide-open event. You have the best of the early speedsters matching up with the best of late finishers. A handicapper’s nightmare! Yet most likely, at least three or four of these semifinalists will advance to the championship final. In Race 14 , there is no doubt that #6 Sarahdipedy will be the post-time favorite. She has won all three of her qualifying races and has posted the fastest race times in each of those rounds. Sarahdipedy will be the youngest of all the $50,000 He’s My Man Classic finalists and have the least number of races around the 545-Yard Royal Palm Course. Her main impediment to her road of perfection may come from the two Koppe, Staats & Collins semifinalists, #1 Pat C Dewdrop and #8 Pat C Inferno . The lineups for Sunday afternoon’s semifinals: Race 12 1. Flying Road King (Kiowa Myth – SE’s Hiway Doll, Rader Racing) 2. Arkans Vega (Atascocita Gray – Asteria Drive, Royal Racing Team) 3. Paul 3/8ths Mile Derby (Saturday afternoon, February 29) and the $50,000 Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. St. Patrick’s Invitational (Saturday afternoon, March 14). The Classic is named for Palm Beach Kennel Club racing legend and the track’s first multimedia sensation He’s My Man and dedicated to the man who raised and trained “Roscoe”, Bill Pappas. - NEW KENNEL AT WHEELING | National Greyhound
< Back NEW KENNEL AT WHEELING Stan Pawloski Aug 17, 2021 Joe Fusaro, Jr. loves greyhound racing. It’s in his blood and it’s in his heart. Fusaro got into the business in 2004 at age 36 when he purchased his first greyhound, but he was hooked on the sport as a youth in Colorado. His great uncle, Paskey Teto, had a greyhound training farm near Mile High Kennel Club and his father, Joseph Fusaro, Sr. has been a greyhound handicapper his whole life. Now Fusaro is entering into a new greyhound venture – kennel operator. For nearly 10 years, Fusaro has been one of the major suppliers of greyhounds for the Tom Engle-trained Abrahamson Kennel at Wheeling Island. With Neal Abrahamson stepping aside as kennel operator at the end of June, Fusaro decided to take the plunge. The new kennel is called Code Red, named after the Fusaro-owned greyhound FF Code Red – a finalist in two Southland sprint stakes in 2012-13 and the Hollywood World Classic in 2013. Engle will continue to train the kennel. “It’s very exciting anytime you own a business for the first time – I’m super excited as well as nervous. I raced greyhounds out of the Abrahamson Kennel for eight or nine years, so I’ve gotten to know Tom Engle very well,” Fusaro noted. “I know, trust and believe in Tom (Engle) and wouldn’t have made the decision to take over the kennel if not for him being the trainer. I’ve considered opportunities to own a kennel at other tracks and turned them down.” Engle is looking forward to teaming up with Fusaro. “I’ve known Joe (Fusaro) for about 10 years and we have a great relationship. I know he’ll put his heart and soul into the kennel – he loves greyhound racing,” Engle said. “I’m grateful for Joe’s support and appreciate his confidence in having me handle his new kennel.” The Code Red Kennel will be made up of a lot of Fusaro’s own greyhounds as well as leased racers from several sources. “In any industry, you need to build relationships and I hope those connections I’ve made (owners of leased greyhounds) will help strengthen our kennel,” Fusaro said. “I’m still breeding so I’ll have a lot of my own greyhounds in the kennel as well.” Fusaro has set some goals for the kennel. “I want to be a top five kennel, but first we have to figure out what we need to do to finish in the top five. Ultimately, we want to get there and win a kennel championship,” Fusaro said. “One of the things I love about greyhound racing is the competition. It’s exciting, and to win races is fun.” It’s been a learning experience for Fusaro since taking over the kennel. “I’m not a greyhound trainer, so I rely on and trust my team. I understand the business end and realize there’s ups and downs in the industry,” Fusaro said. “Hopefully there will be more ups and it turns into a successful endeavor.” In time, Engle feels Code Red will be a competitive kennel at Wheeling Island. “With Joe’s contacts and my contacts, I think we will have a pretty competitive kennel,” Engle said. “It’s going to take some time, but I’m excited.” Previous Next
