  • PBKC PRESENTS ROUND THREE ACTION IN THE $50,000 HE'S MY MAN CLASSIC | National Greyhound

< Back PBKC PRESENTS ROUND THREE ACTION IN THE $50,000 HE'S MY MAN CLASSIC Jan 13, 2020 West Palm Beach, Fl. - Palm Beach Kennel Club presents third-round action for the $50,000 He’s My Man Classic Wednesday afternoon, January 15. Following two rounds of point earnings, the original field of 56 hopefuls has been reduced to 32 athletes, all willing and eager to make it to the top 16. Three Greyhounds will enter round three undefeated, the early speedster Mister Red Rader , strong first-turn rusher Arkans Vega and the most impressive of pups, Sarahdipedy . Match ups on Wednesday afternoon’s stake-qualifying card include: Race 10 features the undefeated qualifying entry, #7 Mister Red Rader (Flying Titanium – Rip N Runnin, B & B Racing). His main competition to keep his three-race win streak alive will be the well-posted #1 Gettin The Money (Offfthebrakedrake – Goodluck Topaz, D. Q. Williams) and the two strongest closers in the race, #6 Arkansbdtxdinoco (Golden Squire – Arkans BD Cheeks, Royal Racing Team) and #8 Lonesome Jones (CTW Base Camp – Blazin Booty, Rader Racing). Luckily, Red Rader drew right between the event’s slowest breakers, which should allow him to get the early lead. The bigger the better! Race 12 features two-round winner #7 Arkans Vega (Atascocita Grey – Asteria Drive, Royal Racing Team). There is no doubt she is racing her career best. Her main competition appears to be the well-posted early-speedster #1 Oshkosh Noisy (Oshkosh Lamont– Oshkosh Vani, James Douglas), round-two victor #2 Pat C Inferno (Flying Fired Up - Pat C Pop In, Koppe, Staats & Collins) and #3 Flyin Artistry (Barcelona Boss – Fly Sarah Palin, Rader Racing). In Race 14 , all eyes will be on the undefeated youngster #8 Sarahdipedy (Superior Panama – Joy Giovanni, Rader Racing). Her round-two victory came from the same eight box and the way the field is set up, cannot see any reason she won’t enter the semifinals with a clean qualifying record. The final qualifier of the afternoon, Race 15 , features several entrants who drew great post positions, including round-two victor #1 Flying Road King (Kiowa Myth – SE’s Hiway Doll, Rader Racing), round-one winner #3 Pat C Dewdrop (Kiowa Myth – Pat C Whereby, Koppe, Staats & Collins) and #8 Go Bon Jane Doe (Barcelona Boss – Go Bon Wego, Royal Racing Team). The top sixteen-point earners following Wednesday’s third round will advance to the Classic semifinals Sunday afternoon, January 19. The elite eight will move on the finale of the $50,000 He’s My Man Classic Saturday afternoon, January 25. The $50,000 He’s My Man Classic is the first event in Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $150,000 “Big 3" Stakes series, which includes the $50,000 James W. Paul 3/8ths Mile Derby (Saturday afternoon, February 29) and the $50,000 Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. St. Patrick’s Invitational (Saturday afternoon, March 14). The Classic is named for Palm Beach Kennel Club racing legend and the track’s first multimedia sensation He’s My Man and dedicated to the man who raised and trained “Roscoe”, Bill Pappas. • $64,000 SPRINT CLASSIC PREVIEW | National Greyhound

< Back $64,000 SPRINT CLASSIC PREVIEW Feb 13, 2020 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – No 550-yard stakes series at Derby Lane is more lucrative than the $64,000 Sprint Classic. With $25,000 going to the champion, the stakes will be high Saturday when one of the track’s premier events gets underway. Since Montague Maze of Moses-Crawford kennel prevailed in the inaugural series in 1976, 44 greyhounds have won the Sprint Classic. No dog has won it twice. That could change if defending champion LK’s Crush N It has his way again in the 45th edition. “I think he can do it if he gets right and starts breaking again,’’ Lashmet kennel manager and trainer Ken Deacon said. “He’s had almost 100 races against the best. “I gave him a little bit of time off. He’s back, and if he gets back to his sharp form, he has a chance of winning it again . . . without a doubt.’’ Thirty-two greyhounds have been entered in Races 4 (8:10 p.m.), 6 (8:39), 8 (9:13) and 10 (9:47). The field will be cut in half after Wednesday’s second round. Two final qualifiers will determine the eight-dog championship field on Feb. 29. Points are accumulated in each race by order of finish on a 16-10-8-6-3-2-1-0 scale. LK’s Crush N It was fabulous in 2019. His Sprint Classic title was the highlight in a season that featured four stakes championships, a national win title with 50 victories, and a pair of Derby Lane top-dog crowns. The 38-month-old male from a litter by LK’s Now R Never and LK’s All In captured the Sprint Classic with an unblemished record – winning all five races, including four qualifiers – to become the second dog in series history to claim the title in unbeaten fashion. The first greyhound to pull off the feat was 2007 winner Hometown Boy of Floyd & Porter kennel. LK’s Crush N It’s clocking of 30.24 seconds in the title race was the fourth fastest in a Sprint Classic finale. Lego Andrew, winner of the 2016 event for Floyd kennel, owns the best time of 30.06 seconds. A lifetime winner of 69 races and more than $103,000 in career earnings from 98 starts, LK’s Crush N It prepped for the Sprint Classic on Monday with a box-to-wire, 7-length victory in 30.44 seconds. LK’s Crush N It drew into Race 8 and starts from box 3. His kennelmate, LK’s Santorini, winner of the $18,000 Inaugural on Jan. 4, is another solid contender in Race 6 and begins from post 6. She is a 34-month-old daughter of LK’s Vespar and LK’s Chardonnay. Both greyhounds are owned by kennel operators and breeders John and Jill Lashmet of Eaton, Colo. “(LK’s Santorini) is running better than the big dog (LK’s Crush N It) is right now,’’ Deacon said. “She’s won six of her last nine races and has only been out of the money once in 10 starts (either first or second). I give her just as much as a chance (as LK’s Crush N It).’’ Lashmet, which ranked in third place in wins among the 14 kennels through Thursday, can become the first operation in 10 years to repeat as a Sprint Classic champion. Only four kennels have won at least two titles consecutively, the last being McAllister in 2009-10. Greymeadow (1998-2000) won the title three years in a row, while E.J. Alderson (1988-89) and Darby Henry (1983-84) were back-to-back champions. Deacon likes his chances to repeat, but he also has an eye on Shoot The Breeze of Floyd kennel. Shoot The Breeze, which has won his past three starts by a total of 24-1/2 lengths, has clocked the meet’s four quickest times on the 550-yard course, including 30.05 seconds on Feb. 3. The 28-month-old son of Derby Lane track record holder Trent Lee and Danicas Go Daddy is owned by kennel operators Randy and Pat Floyd. He drew box 8 in Race 10. “Shoot The Breeze is the best dog here at the track at the moment,’’ Deacon said. “He’s running hard. Everybody’s saying (there’s) a new sheriff in town. “But they run the races and things happen. He’s definitely the main challenger.’’ Deacon says getting off to a good start – both out of the starting box and in the series – is the recipe to success. “The break is 95 percent of it,’’ he said. “If you break, you get away and get around the trouble. Once you get a lead on a good Grade A dog, it’s tough to catch it. The post position plays a big part here. “I always want to win the first couple of races (in qualifying). If you win one of the first two (rounds), it almost guarantees you (to advance) with 16 points.’’ Previous Next

  • $64,000 SPRINT CLASSIC FIRST-ROUND RESULTS | National Greyhound

< Back $64,000 SPRINT CLASSIC FIRST-ROUND RESULTS Feb 18, 2020 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The $64,000 Sprint Classic featured a familiar theme on Saturday at Derby Lane. All four first-round winners led at every race call in the track’s premier 550-yard stakes series. Lester Raines kennel’s O Ya Hot Rod, Shoot The Breeze of Floyd, and Lashmet’s LK’s Crush N It and LK’s Santorini defeated their respective opponents by a total of 15-1/2-lengths to earn 16 points apiece. The 32-dog field will be reduced to 16 after qualifying on Wednesday in Races 4 (8:10 p.m.), 6 (8:39), 8 (9:13) and 10 (9:47). Two ensuing rounds will determine finalists for the Feb. 29 championship race. Greyhounds accumulate points in each qualifier based on order of finish on a scale of 16-10-8-6-3-2-1-0. First place pays $25,000. “The better dogs won the races, and the favorites all pretty much came in as expected,’’ Derby Lane racing secretary Les Robison said. Of the four winners, only O Ya Hot Rod was not the public’s wagering favorite. He was the 7-2 second choice and paid $9 to win. Breaking from box 6, the 39-month-old male from a litter by Defrim Bale and O Ya Cindra prevailed by one length in 30.62 seconds under trainer Jennifer Richardson. Shoot The Breeze provided the most impressive performance with an eight-length romp out of post 8 in 30.07 seconds, the third fastest time of the meet. The 28-month-old son of Trent Lee and Danicas Go Daddy paid $2.60 as the prohibitive wagering choice for trainer Randy Floyd. LK’s Crush N It, the reigning national win champion and winner of four career stakes, clocked the second fastest time at 30.22 seconds out of box 3 for trainer Ken Deacon. He won by 4-1/2 lengths and returned $2.80 to win. It was the 70th career triumph from 99 starts for the 38-month-old male from a litter by LK’s Now R Never and LK’s All In. LK’s Santorini, a 34-month-old daughter of LK’s Vespar and LK’s Chardonnay, prevailed by two lengths in 30.57 seconds under Deacon. Starting from post 6, LK’s Santorini returned $4 to win. On Wednesday, Shoot The Breeze (box 2), LK’s Santorini (3) and O Ya Hot Rod (7) drew into Race 10, while LK’s Crush N It drew post 7 in Race 6. “I’m looking forward to Wednesday,’’ Robison said. “The 10th race has got three winners. That could be an exciting race depending on the break. Any one of the three that won the first round could possibly win the second round.’’ Previous Next

  • SEMI-FINALS 2020 ORANGE PARK DERBY | National Greyhound

< Back SEMI-FINALS 2020 ORANGE PARK DERBY Jan 24, 2020 And it all comes down to this! Just two races of greyhounds remain in the 2020 Orange Park Derby and by the end of the card on Saturday evening, we will know just who made it into the finals. Sixteen greyhounds have the chance, but just who seizes the day, and the points, are yet to be seen. Let’s take a closer look at those races and see if we can get you cashing some tickets this weekend at bestbet Jacksonville. Saturday Evening January 25th, 2020 – Semi Finals of 2020 Orange Park Derby Race 7 – Really tough race here as we have 5 round winners and every greyhound in the field has at least finished in the quiniela in one or more of their starts. This one comes down to the break as far as I’m concerned. RTSS Gonwitdawin might have had a rough trip last time out, but back breaking, and with no speed around, she should be unabated to the lead and holding on late for the win. Pressuring here the entire way should be the other early footers. Fakeit To Makeit has not missed the quiniela in 5 straight and the trend continues here. A Long way to the rail from the outside, but with a good break it should be easy to get there. She will factor from the gun and push the leader to the wire. WP’s Twistedlady gets a great inside post and has even early to be in the conversation. She too should chase the pace from the start and be a factor for the duration of this one. And don’t sleep on Super C Addison. This greyhound is figuring out the distance well and can come from off the pace to get home a winner. If she breaks close, she could upset them all at the finish line. (4-7-6-2) Race 11 – This race is the weaker of the two and the stand-out pick is RPG Get You Back. Clearly the best greyhound in this field and the only undefeated one left in the stakes. With 4 rounds in a row, she is the one to beat, especially from a great 8 box in this race. Out and gone early on! She will dominate on the front end once again. Pressing the early pace should be UC Ricky Snickle. Ricky has not finished out of the money in 6 straight and that will continue in this effort. He has enough early push to challenge and should be around the pace for the early stages of this one. A clear next best, the real race should be for third. That could be very interesting as recent winner, and former 660 standout, GS Octavia is rounding back into form. She might break slow but has a good early rush and can come on a bit at the end of her efforts. She has a great post position to start from in this race and could be unset minded once again if she can get into the conversation early on. Pat C Woozy can really fly in the open and might just have the best closing speed in this bunch. Hard to ignore a win by 10 plus lengths, so we won’t. She likes it out here and will be coming on strong in the second half of this effort. If she wants a chance to win, she must not give the leaders too much of a cushion in the early stages of this race. (8-5-2-7) After tonight the field will be set. The post positions for the Orange Park Derby will take place on Wednesday Matinee January 29th. The finals will take place on Saturday evening February 1st at bestbet Jacksonville in conjunction with our Dash for Cash promotion and our fan favorite 2nd chance drawings. Previous Next
